Question Best workstation card for around £400?

Hi, I am looking for a workstation graphics card for my pc, I will be using it for Architecture modelling. I am willing to spend around £400. Can I please have some suggestions on which one I should get? - i'm not in a rush so can wait a few months if a new one is to be released.

    Thanks

Have you tried ebay for NVIDIA Quadro card? it all depends on what engine/system the programs using OpenGL, DirectX alot of gaming card can support such applications like for 3d max studio will work fine with an Nvidia 680 it depends on What type of work you do and how advance it is and What features you want. Nvidia Quadro card AND are AMD Firepro Card are mostly used for complex graphics works. Thats not to say Card like Nvidia 680 GTX cannot do it. Go to the Software makers website and see their Recommendation or their System spec requirements for the software.

1GB PNY NVIDIA Quadro 2000D Graphics Card
    VCQ2000DVI-BLK-1 - 1GB PNY Quadro 2000D, PCIe 2.0 (x16), 128Bit GDDR5, 2x Dual Link DVI-I
    Scan code: LN39355

This is only entry level - Pro card start at above £700+

What software are you running?? We need to know this so we can determine what card is the best for the applications you are running.

The two cards in your price range are the AMD FirePro V5900 and Nvidia Quadro 2000D.

Here are some reviews of the V5900:

The FirePro V5900 has very good performance overall, although this is dependent on what application you are running and in some cases the Quadro 2000 can beat it. If you software supports CUDA then the Quadro 2000 would be a better choice IMHO.

Another vote for "check what the software vendor says they require".

The workstation I have at the office has the Quadro 2000 card in it, like this one.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-n...port-dvi-i-oem

Check the specs, and you can see that under the heatsink it is just a GTS450, but with AFAIK:

    * A different BIOS so that you can run the Quadro drivers on it.
    * Outputs tend to be Display Port or DVI, not VGA/hdmi.
    * Clocked slower to keep the heat down and try and make it more reliable.
    * Use the lower heat to give it a single slot heatsink.

If a consumer GTS450 will work, then they are a lot cheaper for better performance, or you can get a top end consumer card for the same money which is in a different league.
