560ti SLI vs 580 vs 7950 vs 6##

I appreciate that these question are asked all the time but I'm wondering if anyone has SLI experience and can offer advice.
I currently have an 'Asus 560Ti DCII TOP'
I think i'll be buying a new rig within a month but not sure what to do with the GFX.


The same card for SLI currently costs £179.47 from Scan and this is meant to offer performance exceeding the 580
the other option is to sell the 560Ti for £100 - £120 and buy a new card for about £300

This means the possibility of....

Nvidia 580
or
ATI 7950
(Another possibility is the 670 if its out).




Basically, its a question of SLI or single card. SLI would be cheaper option but the worry is regarding micro-stutter
Anyone got an SLI setup?

In any case, what is the best option if you where me?

Sell now buy later. The gap in the middle will clear your mind and you won't end up with two old cards. Trust me. I know what's best for everyone.

Buy now, regret later. Makes some sense if the performance on new blows away old.

Interestingly, i just read a review on another site that showed benchmarks of BF3 @ 1080 on ultra
The 580 averaged 46 fps while the 7950 pushed 72 fps
I'd want at least 60 so the 580 option is dead in the water.

I guess the best option is to wait for Nvidia to price their rival to the 7950 and stick with my 560Ti on lower settings till then.
The advantage of a single card would be reduced electricity usage saving money in the long term.

If you running at 1080p (or there-abouts) the price drops on the 7950 should certainly be enticing you.....

Although as someone who has recently (and begrudgingly) gone SLI.....I can say that SLI seems to work perfectly in BF3.

I have 560ti and run at 1080 with most settings on high in BF3. I think your wasting your money, I guess it's your choice but the 560 is more then adequate for now.

The 560Ti runs ok at 40-50 fps on high settings but the problem is similar to HD TV.
Once you experience and get used to better quality you wonder how you put up with the standard stuff.

But, being adequate for now is true. It would save me money and wont stop an upgrade in the future.
The thought was if I waited too long the money i could sell it on for would reduce.
The flip-side of going SLi would be that the PSU would need to be 750w or above which costs more.
while a 600w would do for a single card.



2x 580's in SLi must look sic.

If your not in an outstanding rush I would be willing to wait till 30th April to see if Nvidias new seekrit card is actually a 690, or if it could end up being a 660 or 670.

I'd go single 600 series over dual-anything else based on speed, quality and low power usage.

You system specs says you have a 700w tagan psu....that is more then enough for sli 560tis.

Even a 600w would probably be fine. TDP of 170w each card...plus around 150w for the rest of the system at full load puts you just over 500w draw.....

@ DannyM, that is a fantastic deal. Shows that prices are likely to drop.

The problem with my current PC is the motherboard is too old. (no point in SLi, or anything better than a 560)
That why I'm likely building a new rig, without recycling.

My heart is saying (who cares its only money), my head is saying (wait for the next gen) lol
