Getting an Asus 570 Ti - Do i need a new PSU?

    Hi guys,

3XS built my system hmmm 2009 I think and, playing SWTOR on minimum settings and having it refresh kinda tells me maybe I needed a new Graphics card. I have an ASUS GTX 285 and until this game it's been a reliable workhorse kicking out max res / graphics on everything. So to my question. I have ordered an ASUS 570 graphics card from Scan but wondered if my power supply would be up to the task?

    System is:

    i7 920 @ stock 2.7ghz (I don't overclock)
    12GB Corsair Ram
    ASUS P6T Deluxe Mobo
    Creative SB X-Fi
    Corsair HX620W PSU
    1TB Hard Disk
    1 x DVD Writer

As I say nothing overclocked and it won't be.

Any help would be appreciated. If I do have to upgrade my PSU it will be a corsair tbh. Probably loads of better ones but i never ever here it and my system is stable.

    Just as a PS

Thank you to 3XS for building a kick butt system. 3 years (nearly) and its still running well Touch Wood lol

Easy. Even a 500w would cope so you got no problem.

Re: Getting an Asus 570 Ti - Do i need a new PSU?

Hey guys, just installed the 570 and works a treat - Kaged, have the same res as you and seems to be running ok I think there maybe a problem with the 296.10 driver though reading some of the SWTOR posts. Seems to have some graphics lag issues. I did notice some lag because I forgot to increase the res from 1280*1024 lol. Seems ok now though.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys, appreciated

Enjoy it mate, very nice card

You'll notice in Warzones and when you're on Ilum your FPS will drop but when you're out questing should always be 60+

Re: Getting an Asus 570 Ti - Do i need a new PSU?

    Guys,

Sorry just another question if I may?

As a complete computer building novice, I have fitted the graphics card (what a squeeze) lol but, my old GTX285 used 2 x 6 Pin PCI-E cables from the PSU. The GTX570 wanted a 6 Pin and an 8 Pin. Um.....it obviously works using the 2 x 6 pins or I wouldn't be posting this. There are 2 x 2 pin cables next to the 2 x 6 pins - should I a) plug a 2 pin in the 2 pins on the far right as you look at the card or b) leave it alone I don't need 'em?

    Thanks again

Re: Getting an Asus 570 Ti - Do i need a new PSU?

    Ok guys,

I just noticed that the power cable that comes with the card is 2 x 6 pin to 1 x 8 pin. My question now is, do I plug my 2 x 6 pin from the PSU into the 8 pin adaptor and then into the 8 pin slot on the Card, leaving the 6 pin slot empty?

    Confuse.....com or what.....head hurts ~~~Wibble~~~

Jeepers a GTX580 at full chat can nearly use 300w all on it's own let alone the rest of the PC! That poor shuttle PSU!

Treat 'em mean keep 'em keen!*

    * just dont let your house insurance know or they won't pay out when the shuttle catches fire!

Indeed those Shuttle PSUs do seem to pack above their weight! Look at this thread to see what other crazy combos people manage to squeeze out of them!
