    Some more details:

Appears to have 1152 shaders and a 192 bit memory controller.

Seems a shame to strangle what is still essentially a high-end card with a 192bit bus. Maybe this is some overly gimped OEM version?

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

It could be down to cost IMHO,and also to prevent the GTX660 from competing with the GTX670 and GTX680.

I wonder what happened to the GK106? It seems the GTX660 is based on the GK104,which is around 39% larger than Pitcairn.

Yeah, your two lines pretty much nail what i was getting at. If its being cut from the prime chip they probably want to avoid scuppering both 670/680 sales, but it has still has the grunt there. OTOH unless the RAM speed is clocked into oblivion (ref GTX 680 is good for 7GHz in most cases from what i've seen) it might be overly gimped, i suspect the latter as IIRC, Anandtech said the chips were binned on hitting specific core speeds rather than defective SMX units.

Makes sense to me if you think about market segments - people with ultra high resolutions will be going for higher end cards. With their memory speeds, 192bit is going to be plenty for more mainstream resolutions.

Although Acer is releasing that PC with the 660 (today?), I don't know if that really says anything about the retail market for 660s, it could be released for OEM buyers a lot sooner (I don't know if this usually happens). Nvidia also have 120,000 570s to budge. I don't even want a 660, I just want it to release in hope of the price of the 670s coming down!

I suspect it is unlikely to have any real impact on 670 pricing. Unless they are really close on performance and in that case you may well be perfectly happy with a 660. It is more likely to have an impact on AMD pricing and previous generation Nvidia products, who knows how cheap those 570s will get.

I've heard it has 192 GB/s memory bandwidth, maybe this is just a case of confusion between the two? That's 50% more than the old 560.

192GB/s is also the same as the GTX 670/680.
