If anyone wants to take 5 mins to really help me and download and unpack the file I used to see if they can get it seen on their computer, or if they can maybe figure out where im going wrong it would be much appreciated. I downloaded it here... http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/14322.html

That's the same one I had a look at - you're not searching for files called P1220-anything though. You're searching for files named *.inf containing the text P1220, and the file'll probably be in the %WINDIR%\Inf folder - your search should look something like

    (Apologies for the horrible colour)

Hmmm...in that case I can pretty definitely say that it looks like the Copmpaq softpaq hasn't actually installed.

When you ran the softpaq, it came up with a dialog asking you what components you wanted to install, right? And you chose the P1220 at that point. At the end you should have got - is that correct?

In which case when you go into display properties, and update the driver, and show all hardware you should see Compaq listed among the manufacturer list and your P1220 should be in there.

Yeah it did say that after I chose the P1220 to install, and it lists COMPAQ in the manufacturers. Only problem is that the P1220 option just isn't there... isn't anywhere even. Is there some option I could be missing, or something in the manual drivers section I could have missed? Somewhere I should be looking but didnt?

Drat - it lists COMPAQ P1220 Colour Monitor on mine under COMPAQ...

The only other thing I can think is that it may not be a signed driver - if your machine were set to just block unsigned drivers that might stop it from displaying. Check Control Panel, System, Hardware, Driver signing and see whether it's set to warn or to block? If block, try changing to "warn"?

Errr...cause he's already got the inf under C:\Compaq\Monitors and he's already tried them? See above?

edit: richdog, I know you've tried using the P1220.inf file under C:\Compaq\Monitors via display properties but have you just tried right-clicking on it, choosing install and THEN seeing whether the P1220 is listed then under "Display all hardware..." via display properties, monitor, update driver?

I have a radeon 9800 and whenever I update the drivers my refresh reverts to 60hZ and I cannot increase the refresh in the usual display settings advanced monitor until I set the max monitor frequency on one of the ATI display tabs to a more sensible 120hZ. Dunno if that's your problem but catches me out every time and I have to hunt through the ATI display tabs to change from 60hZ to 120hZ and then works just fine. Only thing I can think of to help you at the moment.

OK folks I managed to fix the refresh rate problem, and ther ONLY prog that would do it was Powerstrip, under the Advanced Timings section. As for the drivers, I tried right-clicking on the .INF file and installing, but tis still a no-go. It's like it just doesn't exist.

On the flip side, I have a 6800GT arriving this morning, so when it gets here I shall bring thee a veritable orgy of benchies and screenies for your viewing delight.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help with this strange little prob, especially nichomach, I appreciate it.

Glad you finally got it working. PowerStrip really is the daddy and far easier than faffing around trying to sort out infs etc.

Ahh got my 6800GT now, and powerstip is no longer needed, Nvidia control panel does the job.

The card is like **** off a shovel, but im going to keep the X800XT PE order and compare them I reckon/ My OC is 515/1100, any more than that it gets flakey, so at least I breached Ultra specs, hehe.

Got probs with my A64 performance at the mo though, lol, so any suggestions welcome on that too... http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=24321
