Question Low Power Mid Range Card ?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm currently in the process of using my old PC parts to put together a reasonable secondary mid-range system. The card will need to play 1080p's smoothly and possibly play games on 1280x900 display smoothly (you can guess that I'm not really an avid gamer lol).

Through searching I've come across the 5570 or 6670 just I don't really understand what the specs translate to in real life terms. Is there much difference relating to what I want the card for and what pricing guideline should I look to if purchasing second-hand.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dark Knight

Re: Low Power Mid Range Card ?

I have an HD5670 GDDR5 as a spare card and it could play titles like Borderlands at 1440X900 on high settings fine. I would be careful with the HD6670 as the GDDR3 version is much slower. The GDDR5 version is probably comparable to the 8800GT/9800GT. TBH,the HD7750 is the best bus powered card out there ATM although you can get an HD6850 for the same price.

Re: Low Power Mid Range Card ?

Well I'm looking to buy a Corsair 430W V2 to power the card.

I'm not really on the hunt for anything major like just minor usage hence looking for a low/midrange card which basically will give me best bang for the cheapest buck or £.

Looks like I'll be on the search for a 5670 GDDR5 as they appear to be reasonably priced second-hand.

Re: Low Power Mid Range Card ?

430w power supplier is fine. Because the recommend on official site is 400w, so you still got 30w more.
l don't know you budget limits, but l am using a GTS 450 (about £70 for a new on scan). l can play Crysis 2 on mid-high setting (not very shall about setting, but the picture is fairly good), The Elder Scrolls V high setting and WOW full highest setting very smooth on 1920x1080 with cpu amd phenom ii x6 and 4g DDR3 1333 ram. Hope this will help.

Re: Low Power Mid Range Card ?

I'd agree that the 7750 is the best bet for low power performance, and it's not badly priced now (~£80). It'd massively outperform a 6670. At your resolution you should be able to play almost any game on max settings with it.
