    9800 pro strange patterns

I'm having problems with artifacts all over the screen, normally red or blue... I really need to reinstall windows and i was hoping it was a driver problem but now its happening all the time. Anyone know whats causing this:

edit: i'm not overclocking etc apart from my barton 2500 to 3200 which has worked fine for 5 months

Ick. Have you installed any new gfx drivers etc recently? Or if not is your computer just getting too hot? Can you try it in another computer?

I get a problem esque of this. My entire screen becomes distorted and I can barely see. This only happens on my 9800Pro when I have to reset the machine and only if it is overclocked and it is a bit worse than what is in your picture.
What drivers are you using as they sound like the main culprit?

Also, how old is the card and where did you get it from? (you might have been sold a duff card if it has always been like this)

Ok, I got the card in feb from komplett... its a sapphire 128mb. A couple of months ago i noticed the problem very slightly in some games, then the last week its been getting really bad. Last night i moved my pc under my desk (where i would think airflow is worse) my cpu temp is 36c and motherboard 26c. After i moved it the problem seems to be a lot worse. I'm using Omega 4.6 drivers, i've had a few graphics problems in windows like text not showing up till i select it for quite a while now. I'm planning to reinstall windows as soon as SP2 is out.

I've just opened my pc up and reseated the card plus i checked if the fan was still working and its seems fine now apart from one tiny bit of red of a icon when i first restarted. A couple of months ago I used ati tool to find if i could overclock without artifacts and it got upto about xt speeds with no problems. Any ideas?

The omega 4.7 equivalents are out now, perhaps you could try those?

I've got SP2 rc2 on the other pc, it seems better to me, i'd rather do a clean install of that in a month but i might have to reinstall now.

I will try the new omegas and get back to you mate, cheers.

Did you clock back to standard speeds?
My Omega's 4.4s (but now 4.6's) did exactly what you showed, the crazy lines and colours when I upgraded them. I left my card overclocked 400/372 iirc and I upgraded the drivers, everything went fine and then when windows booted in, it was all crazy and looked just like that or your pic, but a bit worse. How I got around it was clocking it back using RadLink (which I used to O/c in the first place) and restarted and everything was fine.

I think the new drivers should sort stuff for you so best to give that a bash and make sure your card isnt overclocked.
    Hope this helps

I didn't leave it overclocked, i was thinking about flashing to a xt bios but even though it could reach the speeds ok, i have a 350 core

Same thing was happening to me on my 9600 Pro. Sometimes it happened whilst I was playing games and the whole screen corrupted and then when I went back to Windows everything was corrupt.

I resolved the issue by installing Powerstrip and with the memory timing I took away the .25 at the end of the memory speed and since then everything has been working fine.

In realtion to that Adam, you could either try un-installing ATi Tool (which I presume you used to o/c your card) or you try and fiddle with the card speeds, see if you can make it stable like Ferral did.
Either that or if there is an option in ATi Tool (i know there is in RadLink) you could tell the card to boot from bios defaults, it might be that your card doesn't like being "forced" by ATi Tool to run at stock speed.
Thats only a guess anyway, worth trying
