    Re: HD7970 GHZ Edition reviewed!

I always thought the 7000 series were clocked too low, as they all overclock extremely well, even on reference coolers. The current 7970s all go above 1000MHz at stock voltage and at that speed start to match a GTX 670 (and most will go well above 1200MHz with a voltage bump). My 7970 has no problem at stock voltage (which itself is undervolted) at 1125MHz.

    Re: HD7970 GHZ Edition reviewed!

It nice to see AMD is not sleeping. Hope they get more tweaking for the 7870 to match GTX 680 for overall experience.
Also, Hope that 7990 will be out soon.

    Re: HD7970 GHZ Edition reviewed!

It seems the production cards will run at a higher 1100MHZ clockspeed:

The GPU also runs at a lower voltage too.

    Re: HD7970 GHZ Edition reviewed!

I wonder what the changes are, since I think all of the originals will go to 1100MHz. Mine has a stock voltage of 1.080v, though it droops to 1.020v under load.

    Re: HD7970 GHZ Edition reviewed!

HOLY MOLEY! I thought AMD was competitive anyways but slightly behind in power efficiency (as they are computing tanks as opposed to specific gaming cards), this new seems to be quite significant as that is a large reduction in voltage, good work amd if it is true! Now i know why powercolor were saying their 7970x2 was XT2, they didnt mean 2 lots of Tahiti chips they meant the new revision and ofc the x2 in the name meant 2 of them, its also why they said they were waiting for AMD for the new clocks... could be impressive.

Could be enough to sway my decision from holding out , thats if they have similar success to the 7950 variant .
