Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
I hoping someone could help me explain a strange going on, but not something I would complain about lol. I got the Gigabyte GTx 670 Windforce from Scan today and ive been running stress tests etc, just making sure my PC was ok under full load. I have been using MSI Afterburner to watch the clock speeds, fan % etc. I also plan to eventually use this to overclock the card. The card has a Base Clock of 980MHz, and a boost clock of upto 1058MHz. However, Playing BF3 and running benchmarks and tests using Heaven, Kombuster etc, in MSI Afterburner its reporting the clock during these applications is 1150Mhz? Im thinking this can't be right because its not what Gigabyte's spec details, on the other hand im struggling to find out why MSI Afterburner would report a wrong clock when everything else is fine. Has anyone got a similar case they can share, or any reports of issues between this card and MSI Afterburner?
All help much appreciated.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
This seems standard with the 670s - the cards all seem to boost above the stated clock.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
1150 is common. Did you change the TDP in MSI Afterburner?
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
1058 is only the average boost speed. Some games will go higher, some lower.

Nope.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
You can probably push it a fair bit higher if you change the TDP. People are getting boosts of up to around 1350MHz.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
That's normal, my friend's Gigabyte 670 does the same, but he got higher boost now since he increased the TDP.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
I think what they are saying is that the Factory Boost may vary depending on the card, most Windforce 3X are cherry picked so you probably have the better once, that means your overclock will be even higher, e.g. with a Normal 1058 you may overclock up to 1200, since your normal overclock is 1150 you may able to do 1250 or whatever.
Note that this is vague and not in any way used. just an example for reference.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
Its quite normal & nothing to worry about, you'll get even more once you've OC it !!!!
I have a GTX 670 MSI power Ed & its stock boost (on the box) is 1098mhz but it will top 1189mhz in BF3 & stay under the 70c, some people are saying they get even more boost hitting the 1250mhz+ but its dependent on the luck of the card !...
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
I have the same card and in Battlefield 3 It always runs at 1163. Never goes over 62 Celsius either at around 45% fan . Brilliant card.
Re: Gigabyte GTX 670 and MSI Afterburner
I have treated myself to the MSI Power ed 670 aswell (thanks ISA interest payment - whoop!) and it seems awesome so far. Never spent that much on a vid card but I am enjoying cranking everything to the max in all my games so far and it eats it all up. Stays nice and quiet aswell. I have no idea what kind of speed it runs at - does the MSI afterburner software tell you that? I make a habit of never installing any of the crap that comes with vid cards :P
