Will there ever be a bios update for the gtx680 to unlock voltage control?

As above, i bought one of the early release referrence design gtx 680's however i was disappointed when i found out i couldn't voltage tweak highly or past the 1175mv that you can use in EVGA precisionX. With the program i managed a +200 on the core but without it i can barely hit the +120 and get it stable.

I know some people have been using bios's from non referrence cards to boost the referrence card performance but i can't see this being a safe option and i really dont want to bork a £420 card!

So does anyone know if there will be an update coming or are we literally stuck?

I've read that the 680s are extremely sensitive to overvoltage, that you can kill them very easily. As far as I know the non-reference ones are locked too?

Nope there will never be an unlocked bios that allows the voltage tweak.....

That really sucks, i didnt notice any artifacting while overvolting the card so it just feels like it has a ton of headroom left thats been blocked . Would be nice to go past thr 1300mhz mark as im sat on 1297mhz at the moment for core clock underwater.

Sadly, the smaller you get in the die process, the more sensitive to voltage changes they become. We're going to see a lot less voltage tweaking in the years to come across many devices due to this alone (or at least a lot less range).

Still, back in my day () you wouldn't do it through the BIOS anyway. Soldering iron and variable resistor and off you go

Haha there is a guy cant remember his name but in another country thats done exactly that agent. He managed some crazy overclock apparently thats beyond anything i could imagine with scores in 3dmark11 topping records.

It is sad though that we wont be seeing much more voltage tweaking in the times to come if it is going to happen , i miss the voltage tweaking days and hassle free techniques! I didn't watercool my rig just to keep it at stock!

I've tweaked the voltage to max using precisionX and clocked too high before but it didn't seem to do any damage other than crash back to desktop. However for some reason my memory wont overclock anywhere as near as high as some peoples on other forums. They say they can hit +300-400 on memory where as i can barely touch the +160 mark. I think you're right on the non reference models aswel.

MVKTech are currently working on a new version of NiBiTor for the GTX 6xx series, maybe that'll do it.
