    Galaxy Glacier 6800 GT

    I contacted Scan to see if they were going to recieve any of the Glacier 6800GT's. I got this reply;

    Lester Wade,

We should hopefully have a shipment of these cards by the end of next week.

    Best Regards,

    Lee

Its just gone up on overclockers site for £323. So around £330 with postage.

You guys at scan reckon you can beat that? I certainly hope so, dont want to order from OCUK.

I recently bought a Galaxy GT 6800 from Chillblast. Cost was £314 including VAT and delivery. I chose them because they have a good rating on the web site www.romulus2.com. I have no connection with this company and this is my first order from them.

When I plugged in the card and booted my DFI nForce2 LanParty machine the LanParty splash screen was covered in random white pixels. I feared the worst. I was able to boot into Windows XP however the screen was covered in random blocks of pixels :-(. I tried the BIOS and the text was completely garbled as if in graphics mode rather than text mode. Note that I have a new 400W PSU which should be more than adequate for this card in my fairly basic system.

I am now going through the process of a RMA. Thankfully I was able to get through on the phone to Chilliblast easily (took a few tries of course), however the person who needed to authorise the RMA was away for a few days. Anyway the card has now been sent back. I'm nervous about the replacement.

I have just read the review of the vanilla Galaxy 6800. I was interested to read "However, it has to be noted that two previous samples arrived with defects, particularly garbled displays. GALAXY assures us that this issue is behind them and all current shipping cards are factory-certified to be perfect.".

So whoever you buy from, check to see if they are aware of the past problems with this card and see if they have the "factory-certified" cards in stock.

Here's looking forward to finally being able to play Doom3!

I've got a GT Glacier. First one was DOA but the replacement is mint and works perfectly

This was nearly 8 weeks ago mind you. If in that time they have identified a QC problem, then lets be hopeful it's sorted for good

Screamingly fast card. Now just to find some time to play it

Mine's a beaut Clocked her to 430/1100 from 350/1000 default on a GT. Guaranteed to 400/1100 of course via golden sample'ness.

I bought one of the original gainward 6800GT Golden Sample's and it was a joke. Nvidia reference design and wasnt stable at the guaranteed GS speeds of 400/1000. Gainward chopped and changed the specs of the card aswell.

Considering the cards are apparently "rigourously tested for maximum compatibility and stability" or whatever is written in the manual/box, I would have thought they'd have tested the card at 400/1000

I removed the fan bracket and the copper thing doesn't do anything anyway, and installed one of the fancards from OcUK.

Not the same graphics card but it cools very well
