The correct way to uninstall GFX card drivers when switching brands
Hi all,
Could someone please advise on the correct way to remove AMD drivers if I'm switching to Nvidia? Do I need to install the old card, uninstall using that and then proceed as usual?
My mother board has a display output as well, could I use that rather than a dedicated card to uninstall the drivers then add in the new card?
Or can I just fit the new card, uninstall the old drivers, reboot etc, then install the new drivers?
Advice welcome.
Making the change from AMD 6970 to an Nvidia 670 GTX.
Thanks!

It doesn't really matter - it's quite possible to have both AMD and nvidia drivers installed at the same time (though the AMD Catalyst panel will complain that it hasn't detected a supporting card if one isn't present).
I would simply swap the card over, boot up, install the NVIDIA drivers, reboot, and then uninstall the AMD drivers.

Control panel - programs - remove drivers.
As teppic says, it's just not a concern these days. The main reason you want to uninstall the old ones is so you don't have unneeded services and programs running in the background. Nothing to do with compatibility :)

Great, thanks! I guess I am still living in the days of compatability issues and that sort of thing.
I get so fussy, I thought I was having serious issues when i saw Skyrim's shadow handling!

I had huge problems with a 560ti when I put it in an AMD PC which had an old 5570 in it, couldn't get it to boot,
Then again the card did die after about a month.. :p

just to be sure i would install the graphics card driver of the new ones first just to have back up display, then remove the old drivers.
