Interesting overview of the boost mechanism:

Thanks for the reviews. Seems it silently boosts to 1.2ghz by itself based on load. Pretty damn amazing, and well worth the wait. Eat your heart out, Nvidia!

It was a rumour invented by OBR,who later pulled the post from his blog. OBR is well known as a chap who has a passionate hate for AMD(he is a hardware reviewer who works for a Czech hardware website) and a love for both Nvidia and Intel. For instance he has called the HD7970 ****ty slow, and he goes on moaning about specific people on forums in his blog. He has been banned from many websites including XS,because of his attitude, and even mentioning him on XS is frowned upon. The sad thing is he does get some hardware leaked earlier, but he makes Rollo looked nuanced.

I expect he was trying to claim underhand tactics or 'cheating' (ie architecture is so bad it need to be clocked higher to beat nVidia.. ironic given nVidia's boost was kind of doing what he suggested)

Re: HD7970 GHZ Edition reviews thread

When I read the reviews for the GHZ edition, it seems more and more to me that AMD saw how well people were overclocking it and so to make it *beat* nvidia decided they would just clock the cards higher by default anyway (which funnily enough run slightly more power hungry than a user overclocked one).

I will state I prefer nvidia. But lets be honest, with the power of any of the top end cards the difference is usually a case of who can default clock theirs faster or provide a bigger overclock head room, even then its only a case of a few FPS difference in over 100 FPS.

Also is it me or is AMD trying to do with nvidia what it tried doing with Intel?
