Question Is a GT 440 better than my 9800GT??

    Afternoon Peeps.

    Need some advice.

Looking to upgrade my 9800GT card to something a bit better. i am limited to around £60 for a card at the moment and i was looking at a GT440. Ebuyer is selling them cheap and i thought i might grab one.

Looking at a gpureview . com where i can compare both cards, the GT 440 is slighty better, however not as much as i would expect, for a more modern card.

In real terms, would it be worth it to buy and hopefully increase my gaming frame rates and graphics quality. Would i just be wasting my money for little increase.

I know that the GT 440 is direct x11 where my 9800 GT is direct x10.

Can anyone advise me on there experience with them.

    Cheers

    No.

You need at least an HD6750 GDDR5 or GTS450 GDDR5 to have an improvement in performance over a 9800GT. I would get an HD6850 1GB for around £80 to £90. What PSU do you have??

Re: Is a GT 440 better than my 9800GT??

    see here on the chart

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=643&card2=575

both are similar on the bus bandwidth of around 57.6 GB/s

    The GT440 is a Dx11 card
    and the
    The Gt9800 is a Dx10 card

so whats the difference in performance you may ask

well the GT440 consumes 65W and is a 128bit card

and the GT9800 consumes 105W and is a 256bit card

plus you can compare them here on this polish website to see the difference http://www.benchmark.pl/komparator-gpu.html

For really good performance like cat states anything from a ATI 6850 upwards and Nvidia 560Ti upwards you will reap rewards of good stable FPS in games and utils but thats all based on your existing PSU make and model and if its upto running high performance gfx cards..

Re: Is a GT 440 better than my 9800GT??

An HD6670 GDDR5 is around 9800GT level performance. An HD6750 or GTS450 are around HD4850 or GTS250 level performance. TBH,I would save up some more money.

    Thanks for the advice.

looks like my 9800GT is a good little card for the age.

Gpucompare is where I have been looking at the specs and I thought that newer would be better.

Always look at Nvidia cards, never looked at AMD's.

Might have to save a little more.

Re: Is a GT 440 better than my 9800GT??

I went from 8800GT to a GT460, am still happy with it. That is the sort of jump you need to make, so 560 is probably the minimum (given you don't seem to want to go AMD).

Re: Is a GT 440 better than my 9800GT??

I wouldn't waste money on a GT 440. As others have said, the HD6850 at around £85 is the card to go for if you want to spend up to £100.

PC World has a deal on HD6770s are £55, which is really good (and far better than a GT 440), but stock is low.

i can't add much except to say that low end of several generations ahead usually still fall below high ends of earlier generations.

Snag a HD 6xxx series from anywhere you can. I recommend HD6850 or HD6670.

Just checked my local PC worlds and they are sold out of the 6770s.

Shame as they are good cards.

The 6770 is very good for £55, but any more expensive and I wouldn't bother with it, as for £80ish the 6850 is massively better.

HD6850, or HD6870 HIGHLY recommended. You can pick up both and crossfire them. I do that (Very cheap) and you get decent performance.

Going to look at these AMD cards as to be honest only ever look at Nvidia cards. Sticking to what I know I suppose.

Give myself a £100 budget and see what I get.
