    Graphics Tablets?

    Graphics Tablets?

A friend asked me about graphics tablets? That is what they are called yeah? Those little things with a pencil that you draw on and it comes up on the screen yeah?

Well he wants one and wants to know what are the best? Anyone got any ideas or links?

I have the Wacom A4 and the Wacom A5. They are very good if you suffer from repatative strain. Incredibly accurate and fast input. Simple test use windows calculator with a pen and then with a mouse and the difference in speed is dramatic. Write your name in paint with a pen and then with the mouse and again the difference in quality/accuracy is dramatic. Great for some games like Baldurs gate and RTS titles but bad for others. Good for graphic photo / illustration / cad types work for which it is intended. Use in conjunction with a mouse rather than to replace it entirely and you have the best of both worlds. Mix and match the two inputs works well and I often use the mouse and tablet simultaneously. You get what you pay for and Wacom are the best IMO. For general purpose A5 is ideal. Any smaller and it lacks the resolution and feels over sensitive and not really worth it. Bigger it's more of a workout since you have to move your arm around quite a bit. You can map a smaller area on a large tablet to reduce the active area if you feel the need to reduce the amount of arm travel. People will grab the pen off you and try write with it. You will keep wandering off with the pen and leaving it places but with luck you won't actually lose it.
