    3dMark01 help needed

Hey guys I just cannot get off 17500ish marks using a 9800 pro and a XP2500mobile with 512mb of pc3500

I added another 512 of 3200 and stabilised the fsb but my scores dropped.

I also tried clocking the card to 400/350 with ATI tool but Im not sure its running at that speed. The 9800 has a Artic cooler and ram sinks attached.

Can anyone have a butchers where Im falling down on.

That score is about right. I've got a 9800 Pro with 1GB of Corsair Pro XL and a 2600+ @ 200 x 11, the 9800 Pro is at stock and i get 16500 on a clean setup with all services stopped and it fully configured. I doubt you're going to get anymore than that tbh.

Yeh i've noticed some people seem to be getting stupidly high scores but i don't understand how. In my opinion it's CPU based as some of the ones i've seen have voltage mods on their NF7's which allows them to hit 220MHz FSB which would obviously increase their marks in 3d Mark as well as OC'ing their card. Perhaps even flashing their 9800 Pro's to XT's as well.

I don't think it's worth worrying about your scores in 3d mark as everyones seems to be different.

They probably have large overclocks on their cards, or a higher FSB and lower multiplier. I get 16200 in 2001SE with a 9800Pro and 2500+ @ 3200+.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

What software are you using to clock your 9800 pro? I used radlinker and in this you can turn all the quality settings down low and change the settings to "performance" instead of "quality".My 9800 pro would score around the 18,000 mark at "quality" settings but if I changed it to "performance" my score would be 18,600-800.That's with a 2500xp @11x204fsb.
It's a handy little tool as you can easily change the settings for benching or if your gaming.
    get radlinker from here..

iirc 3dmark01 is dependent quite a bit on cpu and prefers higher fsb as well .....

Try using rivatuner or rage3d tweak if atitool doesn't seem to do anything for you

It tends to like a combo of high fsb and low latency. Tried mine with some mushkin 3500 @ 200 (x11) but set 2 2 2 2 5 and scored just under 18k with a 9800pro at stock. Your score still beats mine for first test which you'd expect with it being cpu based but your lobby and nature was worse which might be due to different drivers - used slightly older omega's.

There are all sorts of tweaks etc. you can do but as mentioned already
disable FSAA & aniso & put everything to performance/high performance
higher fsb = higher score for same clockspeed so try dropping multi & increase fsb (I get about 18300 at 10x230 without daft optimisations on my NF7-S. At 10.5x250 on my DFI I can get over 20,000.)
    disable all unneccesary services/background proggies.

You have to remember that the people that take this very seriously often
Have just Windows & the app loaded on a drive.
Run Win2K it's worth a couple 100 pts over XP
Run separate tests with different settings for each test
Play around with different LOD levels etc.

Of course all these optimisations are useless for running games with as they then look crap but they increase your 3DMark01 score - I used to get just over 12,000 with an unmodified GF3 Ti200 (default about 6500).
