Mu. That is to say, the question is sufficiently flawed to make answering impossible

What do you plan to do with it? As in, which games. And what do you consider acceptable performance? And as HJ asked, what's the rest of your system? "Too much" of a bottleneck is something that only you can really decide - if you're not doing anything that will heavily stress the CPU, then it won't be a bottleneck, but that will depend on the games you play, the quality settings you use, etc. and whether it's "too much" of a bottleneck will depend on what you personally consider to be acceptable performance.

If you can overclock it you'll certainly get a bit more mileage out of it, although the e4x00 series only have 2MB cache and run at 800MHz FSB, rather than the "full" 4MB and 1066MHz of the higher-end Core 2 Duos. Basically, that means it's the equivalent of the later Pentium Dual Core e5x00 series, and while they're no mugs, they're also not world-beaters. Depending on your motherboard you might be able to upgrade to a later/faster quad core, but if not you could be looking at a whole new system (after all, s775 is 4 generations old now...)

    Re: amd hd 7770

Its a pc iv been given for my father.. hes been using an old P4 @2.4 with 768mb ddr400 ram with a agp 9500pro card for yrs and its done him proud so even tho the core2duo is getting a little old.. its still a nice upgrade to wot hes as got.. all he plays is delta force black hawk down online and a little tiger woods 2008.. the pc iv been given is a standard compaq presio and wont overclock with standard onboard graphics.. just lookin for a nice card to sit in it that will suit the cpu and give him a little more options.. ta in advance.. i have an antec 500watt psu in the attic collecting dust if it needs it..

The only real way to know is to have someone test it for you or just take the plunge. All I can say is that the 7770 is a great card especially if you pick it up second hand at a great price.

    Re: amd hd 7770

I would say yes. I have a gtx 480 in a system with a E4400 and it runs games like crap, its not my GPU's fault, its that my processor cannot handle anything, the GPU barely runs at 10% while the processor is at 100%. I know, you now must be asking "Why on earth would you pair a gtx 480 with e4400?". Well, I was in the middle of an upgrade from my e4400 system to an i5 system and I only had the money for the GPU and a PSU, so I decided, why the heck not? Turns out, it didnt really make much of a performance difference in games.
