    GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

    http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/486...ew/index1.html

Looking below we can see the main specifications. Looking at the core you can see we've got a 915MHz clock that is boosted to 980MHz. Looking below you can see we're dealing with 1344 CUDA cores and while not shown, we're on a 28nm GPU.

On the memory side of things we're dealing with 2GB of GDDR5 that comes clocked in at 6008MHz DDR. Looking above you can see that we're sitting on a 192-bit memory bus offering a total of 144.2 GB/s bandwidth.

faster than AMD`s best at times oO

    Re: GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

Not surprised from what I've heard about them, unlike every other generation where the mid range is a new simplified version of the top end chip this one is not, it's a binned and masked off chip.
ie same as the gtx465 or the gtx 560ti 448core and this one is far closer to the next in series (gtx x70) than ever before, so performance slightly below the gtx670 is not surprising.
It's going to come down to the price.

What's actually more worrying is what the failier rate on the high end chips is like that they've got enough spare to release them as one of the major cards, or is it that they are just getting to pressured by AMD in the mid range with the 7000series so they are rushing these out because the new chip is not ready?

    Re: GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

I wouldn't say they're rushing these out - they've left AMD without competitor in the mid-range field for half a year - but that's because their mid-range was so good it could be push to the top-range and cover for the failure of the top-range chip.

I don't think they designed a card for the low-mid range (which is now mid-range to compete with AMD's 7800 series) so they might as well use further rejects from the 680/670.

It's good that they're finally getting something out, but I would have appreciated it 6 months ago when I needed it

    Re: GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

I'd sort of disagree there, the gtx560, gtx560ti and gtx560ti 448 core all did and still do very well in the price range.
Nvidia seem to work on the principle of being the fastest even if it costs a little more
6 months ago the gtx560 was around the same price as the 6870 which it performed neck and neck with, with the gtx560ti being a bit more expensive but a bit faster and the 6850 being cheaper but slower.
I do agree with you on the lower midrange the gtx550 wasn't good value for money and the next down was a big step down in performance.
They also seem to be rather reliant on having the fastest top end cards so people will buy the lower end nvidia cards "because nvidia are the fastest" synclinal I know but I've seen a couple of threads where people have picked a low end nvidia card for that reason.

keep waiting a bit longer until we see a price some how I doubt it's going to be £130 ($200)

    Re: GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

Looks good. Hopefully, the pricing will be good too. AMD is readying an HD7950 GHZ Edition too:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/168620/AM...z-Edition.html

This might have to be priced around GTX660TI level now.

It seems the GTX650 will be based on the GK107 in the GT640 but with GDDR5 RAM.

The GTX650TI however is based on a new core, the GK106:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/169790/Ge...-Detailed.html

It has 960 shaders. However,it appears the core will be bigger than the one found in the HD7850 and HD7870.

OcUK says the GTX660TI will be around the same price as an HD7950:

Looking at Scan pricing in the past, they will closely track what the other companies charge at launch. They have been known to price adjust launch day prices upwards if required.

All the companies are at it these days. They wait for someone to publish a high price and then all base it around that, even when there has been plenty of stock.

    Re: GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

Tweaktown's reviews are rubbish. They just mention how they hate NVIDIA and allegedly vice versa and then post benchmarks to old games. Still, they got the GTX 670 review pretty accurate in terms of how good it was, so this bodes well for the GTX 660 Ti.

    Re: GTX 660Ti review *tweaktown*

Performs around where one would expect. I don't know what everyone else was reading but the relevant page is 13

Kepler has been memory starved since release, so it's no wonder this 192-bit card with AA turned on it goes from being around 7950 speed to being 7850 speed.

The other point is that while the 7950 can overclock to 1100Mhz+ (and scales almost perfectly), even the 256-bit Keplers (670/680) do not gain much from overclocking.

AMD's biggest mistake this time around was launching the 7970 at such a low clock speed (and hence being almost compelled to have the 7950 and 7870/50 running needlessly low too) and then taking so long to launch faster clocked version of their cards.

So what would be more beneficial and best money wise? Buying a 660Ti or the 670?

Hoping this isn't too much , on a tight budget, would lower some parts just to pick this up but I still need a CPU at the end of the day, not quite sure a pentium 4 would do the same job

Also prices have just been leaked, they're $350~ so it might not have been worth the wait after all, let's hope that's just a pre-order price

Is that US prices? Prices were leaked from other countries, but they are often more expensive anyway. I wouldn't really speculate until I see an actual UK price.
