    Buying a New Graphics Card

Due to my main GPU blowing up I am currently gaming on a slightly aged 8800GTS 320MB, which i think is slowly dieing. Not to mention the fact it just doesnt really cut the mustard. My question is Should I buy a GTX 670/680 come september or Some Radeon now or try and hold out for the next release of graphics card.

    Regards

Re: Buying a New Graphics Card

At the moment Im playing a little bit of Rift (can only play on low settings), some potbs (handles this fine) some TF2 but I have Dragon Age/Assassins Creed/Supcom etc which I will be playing when i get a little more free time. I also do some movie editing 3d work using Adobe Premier/After Effects and 3DS Max (Though ive found this is much more CPU dependant). I can game at upto 1080p though usually res has to be lowered to keep it playable. As for budget I dont want to spend much more than £250-300 but that is fairly flexible, however of course less is better.

    Atm I have i7950 OC'ed to 4.2Ghz, 6GBs Ram.

Re: Buying a New Graphics Card

    That's a fair wedge.
In that price bracket you're looking at either a 660ti or a 7950.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Yeah looks like the 660ti will fit in budget, so that's likely to be your best choice.

If you could get it for 260 that's a bargain.

Re: Buying a New Graphics Card

Well if you have money to spend then you should get the GTX 670 as you could OC and match a 680.
I would go with the MSI GTX 670 for ~£280, it's what I am going with.

Re: Buying a New Graphics Card

If you overclock I'd say 7950 if not the 670. 7950s generally overclock to 1050MHz to 1150MHz at which speed they'll be faster than a 680. Because GK104 is bandwidth starved, Tahiti generally does better at higher resolutions but even at 1920x1200 in BF3 (which until recent drivers favoured Nvidia):

    (From Sapphire HD 7950 Flex)

Of course nothing is future proof but 7950 does have more RAM (useful for lots Skyrim mods and heavy AA etc) and is generally better constructed.

Power usage is almost the same as the 670 (144W vs 145W):
