460 1gb still good enough if paired with a 3570k?
Got a asus 460 1gb card which can overclock to 800mhz no problem but i generally dont need to oc it really so i keep it stock for now.
Thinking of upgrading and wondered about if my card would bottleneck a new cpu or would it be still a decent enough mid range card for 1080p?
Re: 460 1gb still good enough if paired with a 3580k?
It's decent enough, but not for maximum settings in all games, something like Battlefield 3 would need a combination of med/high settings with no AA for a decent framerate ~ 45-50fps, I would imagine. For reference my GTX570 (paired with a Q6600 @ 3.3Ghz) used to acheive around 50-55 fps on high settings.

What CPU do you have know??
Re: 460 1gb still good enough if paired with a 3580k?
q6600 at 3.2ghz, bf3 i could do almost all high and get 40-55fps ish.

are you talking about i5 3570K ?

Although,MP in BF3 is meant to do well with faster CPUs,a better graphics card might be a good thing to consider, as BF3 taxes graphics card more AFAIK.

460 1GB is still a pretty good card. It wont max demanding games but it will run most things on high.

Yep, sry for the typo.
Re: 460 1gb still good enough if paired with a 3570k?
Couple of games will slow, it but you can always max then at a lower res to get round that. So Sleeping Dogs, Crysis 2, BF3 play at 720p if you want all the eye-candy. Most other games you can 'max' at 1080p. If you hate lower res then you need a new card and the other benefit is although you get some more FPS with say a 670-7950 you do get more eye-candy as well as they really do run better AA_AF even at 1080p than the mid range cards.

If your hearts set on a 3570k, here's what I would do in your position:
Get the processor, keep the GTX 460 and try out a selection of the games you usually play. If you get frame rates that your happy with at the settings you want, then keep it! If not upgrade.
Your frame rates will improve by upgrading the CPU, how much so depends on the game and settings.
Re: 460 1gb still good enough if paired with a 3570k?
The 460Ti is still a good card, but with the 660 just out and more powerful games requirements on high/max then newer games you might need to lower settings. Depends if you have the cash and will to keep upgrading.
Re: 460 1gb still good enough if paired with a 3570k?
O/C the card up towards 900MHz - 850 is doable by nearly all 460's, if you can hit near 900MHz then it performs around a 5870's level.

tbh any quadcore would be okay whats your current cpu?

Some games like BF3 do respond to CPU and GPU OC and either can hold back the FPS. So if you set your CPU to stock but OC the GPU the FPS may not change in MP as older CPU's or lower MHZ can nerf the FPS.
So a Q6600 at stock with a GTX 680 may not get better or smoother FPS than a 3750k at 4.6 GHZ and a GTX 460 (In BF3 Multiplayer 32-64 player maps)! Some games are CPU bound as much as GPU bound (CPU bound tends to be stuff with lots of players BF3, MMO's or lots of stuff happening on the CPU like RTS games), GPU bound tends to be everything else (although bigger faster CPU's can still bump the FPS a little with the big boy GPU's)!
