Cheapest graphics card for 1080P gaming

Could someone please recommend the cheapest graphics card that will handle 1080p gaming. Games include Fifa, Guild Wars 2, and F1 2011.

Re: Cheapest graphics card for 1080P gaming

What CPU and PSU do you have?? What operating system are you using??

    Edit!!

An HD6870 would be the cheapest card which should be OK with those games at 1920X1080 and can be had for around £120.

I would look at this card too:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-112...6494211&sr=8-5

An HD7850 2GB should give you more leeway with future versions of the game and is known to be decent for overclocking.

+1 with CAT on this one

Just make sure your PSU is upto scratch regarding AMPS on the +12v rail

+1 on 7850 they really are stunning value for the 2Gb model and will allow even the complex games to be maxed with HD texture packs within reason for the complex game engines out now and coming. if you go that bit extra for the 2GB 7850 it's gunna last you a long while.

Re: Cheapest graphics card for 1080P gaming

When I was looking at buying a Graphics card, there were 6870s going for sub-£100 (1 or 2 at least). I couldnt see any from a brief look on google shopping, but there should be some out there. If your moving from a console then even a 6670 (for around the £80 mark) will be a big step up, it will handle 1080, but at low-mid level detail settings (6870 will work with mid-high settings on most current games).

p.s. F1 2011 is reported to be very CPU intensive

Re: Cheapest graphics card for 1080P gaming

I would probably go for a 6850, at £88 they're cheap and reasonably quick cards.

If you're willing to go used I've seen a few 560Tis go for as little as £95 on eBay, they're considerably faster cards.

Edit: Saying that I've also seen 2gb 7850s for as little as £143, which would be worth the extra imo.

2nd hand/older gen which will easily play the games you mentioned I would get a 5870 ~ £80, brand new I would go for the 7850.

Thanks for the info. My CPU is a Phenom II 955 and power supply is Nexus nx5000 r3 530w.

I'd like something that is also virtually silent. The 7850 seems the right choice but is a little pricey.

If the 7850 is a little pricey, what is your actual budget?

Re: Cheapest graphics card for 1080P gaming

Well if I was ordering from Scan I would pick this card:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-g...-graphics-card

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rk,3268-6.html

You may be able to find other cards that squeak in under £100 elsewhere, e.g. 6870 or GTX560.
But a 7770 is a perfectly capable card and is slightly more modern with slighter lower power consumption.

I looked through quite a few reviews,so unless you are overclocking the HD6850,get an HD6870. Moreover,if you want a silent card,at you budget you will need to go for a slower graphics card I suspect.

I'll have a perfect condition/working order Radeon 6870 for sale soon (1GB XFX dual fan edition)... It comes complete with all packaging etc. and has never been overclocked or abused .

Re: Cheapest graphics card for 1080P gaming

Guys, before this goes any further - please don't offer to trade or sell on Hexus outside of the FS forums. The OP only has 3 posts so has quite a way to go before they can access that section of the site! This is for everyone's mutual protection and convenience.

Of course, if the OP makes enough posts and your 6870 is still listed once they gain access to the FS forum they're welcome to make you an offer for it, but let's keep it to the appropriate places in the forum, OK?

To add to that, I'm only interested in buying new anyway for the warranty so offers of cards arent neccessary. I'm leaning towards the 7770 now. From what I can tell 1080p might be a stretch but I guess I'm asking for too much.

Well for that kind of money 6850 is your best bet or youy could maybe get something a little bit better if you buy used.
