Lightbulb Is a GTX670 going to be worth it in my current system

My pc is a few years old now but not really in a position to do a complete upgrade.

    Currently running

    Gigabyte EX58-UD5
I7 920 (running at 3.6 cant up it due to cooling issue on NB)
12g (cant remember the name of the ram, at work at the moment)
4870x2 even with its custom cooler its a hot beast
    2x 120 ssd(M4)

Now as i see it the 4870x2 is the weak link here and I can probably stretch to a gigabyte 670 but my question is. Is it really worth it, will i see all the benefits of the 670 on my current setup

    thanks

AFAIK a 670 will destroy a 4870x2 in every way, power use, temps, fps in games etc. The 7870, 7950 and 7970 are also worth looking at and overclock like demons all will destroy the 4870x2's performance as long as you have the psu to drive them.

I have a friend with an i7 950 who just added a EVGA GTX670 FTW and he is getting excellent frame rates from the card, given that his PC is running at stock I think you get will excellent performance from one of these on your rig if you do the upgrade.

What is your PSU model?? What resolution are you running your games at??

I would look at the following graphics cards:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-g...ni-displayport

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-m...79mhz-cores-13

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-g...58mhz-cores-13

If you want to spend less I would look at these cards:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-m...ni-displayport

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...95wf3-3gd.html

The HD7950 does tend to overclock well and both the MSI and Gigabyte cards have a very good cooler and are pre-overclocked too.

    Thanks for the replies
Went for the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X in the end its just so sexy
Only running games at 1680x1050 but the monitor is the next thing to go

    Oh on a side note,

I was reading somewhere that i could pop the cover off my Northbridges heatsink and put a fan directly on to it.
but not really sure how to fit any fan as its a weird shape with a slope, if i could keep the NB cool i can get my 920 back up to 4 and boosting to 4.2
