    Haven't changed a thing ... everything's running totally standard.

XT came from Microdirect - check out my review of them on the users bit for more info.

Realistically I can't imagine a slightly higher 3D Mark having much effect in gaming, but it is a little galling to be so far off the mark. I did briefly attempt to use the Overdrive feature in the ATi control panel and the 5% auto-overclock on the mobo but I saw very little difference at all.

I get 13,000 2003 and 25,245 2001 with my set-up, with overdrive off and the 5% motherboard OC you are using. I've also tweaked the RAM timings to 6-3-3-2 and run my XT at 540\580 (1160)

i see what ur sayiyn daKid but take into consideration that although the guys on these forums say at stock .

They still tweak things like windows ram timings and priority,s to get slightly higher 3d marks.

there is something wrong with ur 01 score though. imho ur system should be pushing at least 24,000 at stock and thats the bare minimum.#

its prolly something stupid u have overlooked though in the settings maybe even driver problems.

And btw i think richdog was runnin his a64 at 2.5 for his tests

Am using Cat 4.8 drivers and I have Geil value memory (the timings are in my sig) and I've no idea how to overclock ram

Can either of those make that much difference?

Move to the 4.9 betas, if you are playing Doom III, as they give a boost in OpenGL. RAM timings are changed in the BIOS, as you have the same board as me, you do it the same way.

Enter the BIOS (Del just after booting up), go to the memory timings and voltaage section, and then see what you can get. Try getting the CAS down to 2, from 2.5, maybe the TRAS from 8 to 6 as well, then the others (4, 4) down to 3, 3 and maybe 2, 2 if you can, you never know.

Then if all is well and you can still boot to windows, loop 3DMark 2003 a few times, and run Prime95s various memory tests so you know your RAM is 100% stable at the new tighter settings.

You can try giving the voltage a little nudge if you like, just a few increments, if the RAM won't hold, as this sometimes helps. Be aware, more voltage = more heat. I'll be going back to my timngs and having a go at 6-2-2-2 soon, with a slight increase on the voltage.

Don't ignore any errors though, no matter how stable it is in games or whilst using Windows, if it fails a Prime95 or MemTest test, ease off the timings.

Look under Advanced / CPU Config / Mem Config for the timings and Advanced / System Frequency and Voltages \ Config for the voltage.

Good choice; just getting one of the top cards in your rig will be enough to please any gamer; petty squabbles over benchmark scores between ATi and NVIDIA owners are (hopefully) very much the sort of thing that happens on lesser forums.

    Right lads?

Have downloaded the Cat 4.9 Beta drivers, and I've found Prime95, but could do with a pointer to MemTest, as there seems to be a few progs out there with that name ... also, should I drop to 2-6-3-3 immediately, or do each one at a time?

    Appreciate your help

Try it in one go, it will either work or it wont, if it doesn't, bump the voltage up by one notch, if it still doesn't, I'd give up, although you can *at your own risk* knock the voltage up again.

MemTest83 I think its called. I use Prime95 though myself. Leave it on over night for a good solid testing.

Also get CPU-Z, it will detect you RAM settings in Windows, as well as a lot of CPU info, which could come in handy.

No joy at all. Tried 2-6-3-3 and 2-8-3-3 and I also tried putting the voltage up a notch as well, and it still wouldn't boot ... I had to hit reset and then the message "overclocking failed" came up each time. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised, as I did buy value ram

I think I shall chalk this up as my first experience of overclocking RAM and simply wait until I can afford some top-notch stuff

    Thanks for your help, Vaul

Ah well, I only had mildly better results on my CorsairXMS TwinX stuff.

Still, you can always download PowerStrip and bump the core and mem clock on your card up, to say a nice safe 540 \ 580. Will give you a little boost.
