    AOpen 6800 GT

OK, like the world + dog, I'm seriously considering getting a AOpen 6800 GT 256MB graphics card from PCW's component centre.

Has anyone ordered from them? Do they actually have any stock, like they claim they do? Are there any particular advantages/problems with this particular card?

    Thanks.

I ordered one yesterday and it has been shipped! :-)

The tracking info says estimated delivery tomorrow (Thursday) even though I paid for next day delivery :-(

This asside, they *do* appear to be in stock and this card had a good review on hexus.net of course :->

PS Hope this card is as good as you lot all say ... I am still a little dissapointed not to get the ATI X800 XT ... hopefully not for long though :-/

When I bought mine a month or so ago, the only one's they had listed in stock were the PNYs. I ordered with overnight delivery, and it turned up bang on time. Feedback around here seems to be pretty good for the PCW Component Centre.

Is the AOpen a reference design like the rest? If so, they are all pretty much of a muchness - which is a good thing, as they all seem to be hitting base Ultra speeds and then some. :-)

i have had one for a couple of weeks now and it does well and truly rock, am running it beyond ultra speeds and it takes doom 3 at 1280x1024 ultra detail and asks for more. Love the thing, all i need now is some water cooling i can get it even faster!

Got the card last night and I'm very impressed.

It's still very CPU-limited until I upgrade the rest of my system but the difference between it and my old Ti4600 was very noticably in the Dawn of War beta and in FarCry.

It's pretty noisy (especially compared to my passively cooled Ti4600 ) but it overclocks well - well above Ultra speeds even using the automatic overclocking mode.

Two things of note - it comes with a bundle of games not mentioned anywhere on the internet. It comes with Spell Force (never heard of it), Arx Something (???) and 5 "lite" versions of various games. Also, the box reckons that the minimum PSU you should use with it is 480W! I guess I'll have to upgrade my 340W one!

Nah, if it works fine now, it'll continue to work fine. Don't upgrade unless you have too. Those specs. are just the manufacturer covering themselves based on the initial high figures Nvidia quoted. Most measurements of systems with these cards installed I've seen show nothing like the power draw quoted on the box.
