    Fx5600 ???

Just brought a system of a friend very cheap, it has a Ledteck Winfast A310 Geforce FX5600 with 256meg of ram, I have been out of the gaming market for a few years, how is this card rated and will it play most modern games? Also what sort of money is it worth now? and how much would it have been new?

+ what are the best drivers to use on this? i'm after simple drivers, as i don't wanna clutter my computer up with overclocking add ons and stuff

The FX series is basically the GeForce 5 generation of cards (generation 6 are coming out now, but very slowly and starting with only the top-end cards).

The 5600 is somewhere in the middle. The lowest card is the 5200, which is an budget card, than then they go up to the 5950 (IIRC) which is the top-end £400 enthusiast card.

Dabs.com have got a Gainward one going for £85, I wouldn't expect you to get more than £50 for it second hand. eBay is probably your best bet if you do want to sell it though.

I'd expect that your friend's card plays games at least adequetely.

As for drivers, just download the latest denotantors from nVidia's website and you're away.

It should be significantly better than your Radeon 9200.

Bobby...not bein funny or owt.......but why are you so obsessed with the bloody rep point system? Oh and the fx 5600 is a mid range card so should be better than your entry level 9200

the 9200 is a severely cut down 8500le so it ends up slower than nvidias slowest fx card, the fx5200. the fx5600 is easily faster though still poor for a midrange card, youre talking fx5200ultra speed but with a much better o/c. in terms of where the fx5600 fits in the fx5600ultra is much faster but still only equal to the radeon 9600pro. if the fx5600 isnt an ultra id sell it and buy at least an fx5700ultra or 9600pro/9600xt.

You won't get very high LOD on games like Far Cry with a FX5600.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
