16ms responce time so no ghosting and excellent colour too
I dont reccomend TFTs for games at all. Mainly because they look crap at anothing other than native resolution, Ive got a dual screen setup, 1 CRT 1 TFT best of both worlds, use the 19" CRT for games!
iiyama prolite e431s
The most consistent reviewers of TFTs seem to be Tom's and Anand's, so I'd definately start there. Maybe Hexus has done a few reviews too? There are also plenty of other sites, so do some reading up. Don't be misled by claims of xxx response time, as generally it means very little (again, Tom and Anand point this out in their testing.) The same holds true for the quoted brightness and colour-range.
I personally stick with CRTs for gaming. If I was going to switch to TFT, I wouldn't buy one I hadn't seen first. Oh, and maybe think about how the retailer/manufacturer handles the 'acceptable dead pixels' issue.
Another good point someone made above was about them only really working best at their native res. A 17 panel is generally 1280x1024, larger panels even more. So make sure you have a graphics card (and PC) that can drive your games at the sort of speeds you want to play at those resoulutions.

I've got an iiyama prolite E431s-B. Bought it last week. £292 from microdirect. No dead pixels seems good for games. No dvi cable tho but analogue is just fine for me for the moment.

It's a tft panel, therefore the maximum is the optimum, price runner are *so* well known for accurate specifications of products
I kinda figured there was something funny going on! :p
Umm.. Yeah.. Right.
As for the actual question asked at the top of this thread, the Samsung and Iiyama panels seem to get constant high ratings from their owners :)
Heh, i'm getting a TFT soon. Is the Samsung SyncMaster 172X any good?
i can't recommend that iiyama, or iiyama as a company, enough.
but it's gonna be a subjective decision in the end.
Definitely Iiyama E431S ... in black! Man it is so pro! :D:D
the lg10b, the iiyama, or the (often overlooked) hyundai q17-s (appears to be turning into the q17+, an end of stock s would be a bargain for anything under £300) which I've found is a better panel than my 1710B.
