I have a Palit 1536MB 580 and in certain games it makes a horrendous whine! Fifa and Portal 2 are the worst of the games I play. I know it's the GC and not the PSU because I've changed the PSU, in fact almost all my system except the CPU. It's not like the thing doesn't work it's jsut noisey in certain conditions. It's not being OC'd.
Any suggestions?
It shouldnt whine....I'm guessing its got a duff fan.
Sounds like coil whine, normally happens when the GPU can render far too many frames then needed, make sure Vsync is on and see if it shuts up.
Will try vSync on those games tonight, hadn't thought of that. I should probably stick an FPS counter on to see if the niose coincides with the FPS. It does change pitch and frequency as the image on screen alters. Seems to tie in to there being a lot of white on screen.

Ok, so tried sticking vSync on and no joy. Still getting the noise.
Goto EVGA.com/precision/ and download (you must be a registered user of the site to do this) EVGA PRECISION X. It's an overclocking utility for nVidia GTX cards. You can control fan speed, GPU clock and voltage. Plus it maps out in real time your GPU temp, memory clock and GPU clock. This program MAY help you narrow down specific conditions when your card is making these strange noises. If your card is already overclocked, it will allow you to bring it down a bit and maybe eliminate your problem. Hope this helps :)
P.S. It doesn't matter what brand (evga, asus, etc.) your card is. As long as it's an nVidia GTX this program was made for it.
