hmm I've been thinking (GPU help plz)

if i game mostly at 1280x720 to record and upload to youtube, and i was thinking of getting the hd 7870, then... is it worth it? would that card be overkill?...

I mean, I'm trying to save a little money by maybe going for the 7770 or the 7850?, but im not sure which one would be best for my resolution, I would like to at least have high settings in games and get at least 60FPS, all modern games btw, considering its lets-plays and stuff, and some older games XD, please and thank you

Looking at your setup i would go for the 7850 >>>> http://www.ebuyer.com/362480-gigabyt...-gv-r785oc-2gd is your best bet its dual fan cooling and at Max OC on GPU and Ram

    Hope this helps

Re: hmm I've been thinking (GPU help plz)

its a bit too expensive mate I could get the 7870 for like £10 more... and I am not interested in overclocks, or overclocking, and would just like a card that can run most games at max/high settings with at least 60fps at 1280x720 for recording to youtube, is not likely that i'll be getting a bigger screen because its not necessary.

I was thinking its not going to make much difference at that resolution as you are going to be more CPU limited. Techpowerup do a comparison of performance at various resolutions and there appears to be a big difference on paper mid to high end. I suppose the comparison you can make based on relative % and after looking up benchmarks on the games you want to run. Its a difficult one.

hmm... if its cpu limited then my i5 3570k would be pretty decent? lol, and would it be worth getting a 1gb or 2gb card at that res?, if 1gb is ok at 1280x720, then i will go with the 7850 lol

Re: hmm I've been thinking (GPU help plz)

upon further review, maybe the 7770 might be the better choice for the price, could anyone be so kind as to tell me if it would be waaay better than my current GTS 250 512mb, OC edition?, im sure it would.. but im not sure as my card runs a lot of modern games with like 30fps at 1280x720... ((with reduced graphics in some tho haha))

The HD7850 1GB is worth considering:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=411

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-m...dmi-2x-mini-dp

Looking at the TPU benchmarks,it will give you around 60FPS even in BF3 at 1280X720,which is what the OP said they wanted.

so the 7770 isn't good enough for 60fps at 1280x720?.... this one more specifically http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-x...res-hdmi-dl-dv ?, or would i still be better off getting the 7850?, the cheaper the better, and i am hoping that these cards would/will be a huge improvement over my old GTS 250 hahaha

If it is BF3 multiplayer, maybe not. A decent amount of other games, probably! So we need to know what games you are running first!! The GTS250 is probably just below HD6750 level performance,ie,between an HD6670 GDDR5 and an HD7750 GDDR5.

well bf3 isn't a game i ever plan on playing, neither is cod, i will be playing a wide variety of new releases, becaus i will be doing lets-plays, but there will be some older games too like S.T.A.L.K.E.R and fable 3 and the like, maybe dishonoured at some point, that sort of stuff, not much into online play unless its a game like borderlands 2 or something like that.

Re: hmm I've been thinking (GPU help plz)

It's not a big price difference between the 7770s which start £93 and 7850s which start at £124 approximately, personally I see the potential savings as a false economy and agree with Cat on the 7850 side of things. If you are aiming at 60fps on all games and the 7850 can cope with demanding games like BF3 at that speed then you know you will not have any issues getting the frame rates you want without having to compromise on quality or settings.

Re: hmm I've been thinking (GPU help plz)

If you want to be hitting 60fps at 1280 then the 650 Ti seems ideal for this niche usage.

The graph above shows it being 25% faster than the 7770 (although probably slightly less with 12.11 drivers, but the 7770 didn't see gains as large as other cards, especially at low resolutions).

The 7850 would normally be well worth the extra, but not at the low resolution you are planning to use.
