evga GTX560ti re-grease for lower temps?
The last video card I took the hsf off of was an 8800gts/640. That card still runs strong and is in my wifes part time gamer with a Q6600. I remember using just regular Artic Silver 5.
With my 13 month old EVGA GTX560Ti is the process going to be the same/similar? The only reason I ask, is because I came across an article the mentioned that it isnt grease they use, but more of a gum. I do not want to ruin my great running card, but I would like to drop temp and maybe play with some overclocking on weekends.
Idle temp: 35-40c.
Load temp: 55c-69c
Ambient @20c
65c = 70% Fan Speed.
70c = 100% Fan Speed
I could raise this, but I found during load, depending on game, it really didnt matter, the temp would eventually top @68-69c. The "problem" game is Rift (mmo). Once I log in, temps hit 65c+ and pretty much stay that way until I log out. Other games, like Dishonored barely take this card over 58c.
It is a big airy case with 4x 120mm fans, 1 of which pulls ambient air in and right across the gpu.
Thanks.

The best thing is to hold down the blades of the fan and use a blower to remove any dust in the heatsink.

I have owned my computer shop for 11 years - cleaning is the easy part. Thanks for your input.
Anyone with experiance cracking the hsf off an EVGA 560Ti? My main question is will AS5 work like it did in the paste, or is this new info about it being gum correct? Do I need to purchase some of this new insulating gum for mosfets etc?
Thanks for your time.

If your GPU uses the stock design then it might be worth downloading the instructions for a third party cooler or water cooling block so you can find out what you are likely to find when dismantling your card. If it's not stock you might still be able to find third party coolers but I think it might be harder to come up with something that way.

i have 2 560ti's in SLI and like all my cards i strip them down clean off the thermal paste/gum and apply the arctic silver 5 and will run like a dream for some time, so dont be afraid of opening them up.

Perfect. I was worried I was going to need some "proprietary" gum for the mosfets. AS5 it is! Thanks for responses.

EVGA cards use .5mm thermal pads on the mosfets I do believe.
But honestly your temps are fine, the card isn't really overheating until 90c+,
maybe blow the dust out but I doubt the heatsink needs to be reseated.
