    AMD 3500
    ASUS 8V

ANy ideas what it can be ? is it memory timing ? Ive reinstalled the motherboard drivers to no avail !

Well I just got 5401 on an AMD 2.6+ and a R9800pro, with loads and loads of stuff running in the background, so I should think you should be getting a lot higher, yes.

If your RAM timings are at default they shouldnt be causing a problem. You might not be getting the best performance, but they shouldnt cause a low score like that....I'd leave them as they are and try the other options.

Like someone else said: Are you sure you have AA and AF switched off? I made the same mistake when I put my 6800GT in, and I got the same score as you. First thing I did was went to the Nvidia driver panel and forced AA and AF off. Score then jumped to 12,500. :-)

For gaming, I just leave it with 4xAA and 8xAF. Runs plenty sweet.

EDIT: Make sure you are benching at 1024x768 resolution too.

There is no 3dmark 04. Only 03. Make sure you have AA and AF turned forcibly off. Also Turn vsync off.
