I got me a FX5800 here, and whiel I love it to bits when the fan kicks in when the GPU gets hoe the bugger is loud.
So I wondered if anyone had spotteded any companies making alternate cooling for the card?

Whack a socket 7 heatsink on it and 80-120mm fan under it?
edit: actually - P2 xeon heatsinks - flat and large, try one of them. Or a low profile P4??

I strapped an 80mm fan to therear heatplate for the minute, so far its stopped the fan kicking in when in 3d
Sell it and buy a new card how about a nice rad 9800pro or an fx5900 ultra

I dont think Zalman or any of the usual cooling suspects have released anything for the FX series, but i would imagine they wont miss out on it if they can make money. Check Zalmans site and see if they have anything upcoming.
Once upon a time, there was a company (I think it was something 3dfxcool or something) that made and sold something called the 'Super Slot Fan'... It's basically a 80mm fan molded into a slot that blows cool air directly onto the graphics chip... (Note: this is very different from the slot exhaust that are very common and does next to nothing!) Have a search around, there may still be place that sell something similar.

Thanks for all your help tho ppl, i'll have a look at some of the suggestions made
If anyone thinks of anything else feel free to chip in
is that zalman gfx cooler only for ATi card's?
would of thought you could use that otherwise
The Zalman ZP80A (sp?) isn't guaranteed for FX5800 cards but I don't see why it shouldn't work, especially if you mount a fan on the Zalman bracket and point it at the card. Alternatively given the cooler kicks in at higher temperatures only you could try just the bracket and fan as someone has suggested above and this should keep the card under the temperature limit for kicking in the severely noisy fan on the card.
