    New Graphics Card Advice

    Hi All,

I am usually top of my game on the computer parts front but really I think lately I am just blind from looking at benchmark after benchmark.

I am looking for a new graphics card, like all the usual games, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Civ 5, Mass Effect 3 etc etc etc

Currently looking for something better than a 4890 with a budget of up to £150.

    What do you think?

    Thanks
    Jon

    7850 all they way.

Get one with good cooling and they can overclock up to 7870 speeds.

Getting a one with a good cooler will cost more than £150 though.

Stay away from XFX cards, they may be cheaper than the others but there is a reason why.

There's no point in spending over £150 on a 7850, you might as well get a 660 which is practically as fast as a 7870 out of the box.

If you can go up to £170 then the GTX660 and 7870 hone into view, but frankly the 7850 will be a massive upgrade over the 4890 so if you'd rather save the money then stick at that

    Re: New Graphics Card Advice

I saw one of the Sapphire HD7850 2GB cards with the dual fan cooler for around £140 on Amazon a day or two ago,but it is now £155. You can get a MSI HD7850 2GB Twin Frozr for £149 from Scan, but TBH I would prefer if it were closer to £140. The GTX660 and HD7870 are around £160 to £175 and are faster,so might end up a bit better value IMHO,although you will find more GTX660 cards in that price range IIRC.

I don't think you get any free games on Amazon though :/

    Re: New Graphics Card Advice

    Hi,

Thanks for all the advice, I was looking at the 660 and 7870, but I know me and if I did that, then I would be looking at getting the next one up from that as it's just a few pounds more, before I know it I would have spent £300 on a card lol.

So think I will be looking at a 7850, though looking at benchmark's that 7870 is awfully tempting as well :/

    Re: New Graphics Card Advice

If you have a little extra, the 660 is worth it imo, at a mere £160 it is only £10 more than a 2GB 7850 and a fair bit faster.

This particular card is just such a bargain imo, it is easily one of the best 660s and yet somehow also the cheapest!

    Re: New Graphics Card Advice

It's slower than the 7850, not really worth it unless you are really short on cash. Even then you're probably better off with the 7770.
