    X800 Pro concerns

Just taken the plunge and purchased an X800 Pro, but just got a couple of questions.

    1. Is my current system going to be able to do the card justice or is there going to be a bottleneck somewhere?

    2. How easy is it to mod it to an XT? And how much of an increase would we be talking about?

    Cheers.

    1. Yes it is a bit of a bottleneck. No it shouldnt stop you buying. At higher resolutions and details your shouldnt notice too much difference.

    2. No idea but performance is a fair whack (~600 03 marks out of 12000 possibly for your rig)?

run it as a normal one first. as it is your eyes will FALL OUT OF YOUR HEAD

Dont overclock it, dont do anything...just let it run vanilla.

Trust me....going from a 9600 to a 9800 Pro would blow your brain out....as it is you will be devastatingly pleased

My mate went from a 9700Pro to an X800Pro and WOW! IT's a heck of a jump, even when leaving the rest of the system intact. Don't be too quick to wanna mod the thing... Even though it is the hardcore thing to do

Cheers guys, that was pretty much my thinking, I try not to mess about to much with my hardware (and consequently it all still works ).

With regards to the bottleneck, what processor would I be looking at to make full use of it? (My girlfriend could do with a computer for home for her work - darn teachers working too much - and it would be a semi-valid excuse to upgrade the rest of my system to build one for her from my spares). Mind, I've overclocked my CPU in the past to 3.2 speeds (2.8GHz IIRC) so would that help?

Anyway, the card should be with me before the end of play today - nice. Oh and I'm off rally driving for a mates stag-do tomorrow. Ah, you gotta love it!

If you can get your rig stable enough to run at 2.7GHz (nevermind 2.8GHz) it'll be pretty good. I'd look at your FSB/memory being more of the bottleneck then. You shouldnt worry about your setup too seriously. The new card will give excellent performance even if bottlenecked slightly.

You'll need a big magnifying glass if you want to try and hard mod your x800.The 2 bridges you have to join are really tiny.I was going to have a go at hard modding my x800.Sadly it died before I could even try.so I'll have to settle for the good old RMA.
    Here's how you do it.http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...t=x800+hardmod
This month's Custom pc mag has it in as well.

I thought the same m8 till I seen the size of the 2 bridges that you need to join. They are tiny.A big magnifying glass is needed. The guides make them look easy and big.I never did it,like I said my x800 died before my testicles grew big enough to attempt it

The hard mod seems to have good results, but my advice to anyone buying a x800 is to go vivo, its pratically the XT with the bios locks and even ave the 1.5nS samsung memory, took minutes to flash with the gigabyte bios. Just remember the X800pro got its ass in the "pro" bin for a reason though, so dont expect XT speeds though.
