    Graphics card fps help!

I recently bought an EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti FTW Signature 2, On Battlefield 3 I get 70+ fps on ultra which is fine but when it comes to games like CoD4 or Team fortress 2 I get no where near as much fps as I got with my old card which was the GTS 450?

    PC SPECS:

    i5 2500k @ 3.4ghz
    8GB Ram
    TX650M PSU
    1 TB

I've installed the latest drivers of the nvidia website.

Could it be a ping issue??? or V sync issue?

What is the temperature of your card playing these games? they might be throttling if too high

My ping is fine (around 40) V sync is off + the temps are about 40 when playing TF2+COD4, BF3 temps go to around 50

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

I think you're getting low frame rates on TF2 is because of the amount of items on it now.

My GTS 450 can get 300fps? But the 660 Ti gets 150 under

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

There is no practical difference between 300 fps and 150 fps, don't worry about it.

    300 fps is not better.

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

The thing is I play competitively on TF2 and to get 300 constant is a HUGE bonus it means the game doesn't lag (I get fps drops). The point is is why is my GTS 450 out performing my 660 Ti ?

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

As willzzz pointed out if you are on a 60Hz monitor then the maximum frame per second it can display will be 60 FPS. Anything above that is just for benchmarking.

When you say you get FPS drops what does it drop to? Also if your playing online check to see if your ping is a problem because somthing may have been updating in the background etc.

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

Right on cod4 and tf2 Higher fps is essential in competitive play so I really do need the maximum fps I can get, And it drops all of a sudden the goes back up. I still don't get how I get lower fps on a 660 Ti than I do with a GTS 450, SURELY I would get ALOT more fps

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

Average FPS is a useless metric. What you want to know is how often and how far it drops below 60fps.

Did you clean up your drivers before installing the new card? If not it could be worth a try, supposing that the reported average FPS actually represents lower performance.

I'm not quite sure If you guys understand what I'm saying, I HAD a GTS 450 and I now HAVE a 660 Ti. THE GTS 450 IS OUTPERFORMING THE 660 Ti?

    Re: Graphics card fps help!

We understand full well; it's you that is lacking in comprehension I fear.

Your monitor is incapable of showing 300fps or even 150fps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Voto6njwvpY to 'see the difference' between 60fps and 1000fps.

As long as it stays above 60fps you shouldn't have any jerkiness due to the graphics. You may have jerkiness due to other reasons, or the frame rate could be dropping below 60fps on occasion.

The question is whether there is a real degradation in performance, rather than what the FPS is telling you. If there is have you tried putting the old card back in to make sure it's not some other change?

I am told that FRAPS causes a degradation in TF2 performance, but I can't vouch for it as I don't play the game.
