    PCI-E 2.0 and 3.0

So looking for a new XFix card and I noticed that my MB only supports PCI-E 2.0... If I were to get a GTX680 which is stated to be a 3.0 card what would happen if I were to plug it into my current system?

    Thanks for your help...

PCI Express 2.0 vs 3.0 GPU Gaming Performance Review : Tables of Performance Advantages Percentages

This should answer some of your questions. The performance-loss would be different with every application, but I would say (by looking at the graphs) it will be around 5-10%. For CrossFire / SLI the difference is even bigger.

I can imagine if you are going to be running a 680, this will easily play most games well and the loss will be barely noticable.

The difference might be bigger only if it's a dual card using one slot. Otherwise when you crossfire/SLI you use more than one slot so the bandwitdh per slot doesn't change.

But the quick answer is it'll work absolutely fine. It's fully backwards and forwards compatible, and the bandwidth on a 680 isn't likely to hit the PCI-E2.0 threshold in most cases.

What he said, PCI-E 3.0 is fully backwards compatible with PCI-E 2.0, my GTX 680 was in a Socket 775 Motherboard never had any issues at all, Now have it paired with an i7 3770K in a Socket 1155 Mobo and all is sweet
