    Next gen GF 7xx/AMD 8xxx

    Hi guys

I was wondering if there's any word out about when the next GPU refresh is? I'm currently using a Geforce 460, so I could do with an upgrade in the foreseeable future!

Not really - they're concentrating on refreshing/tweaking existing series. Expect end of this year/start of next.

That's what I thought. I might get a couple 7870 Tahitis for Crossfire

Not me, everything I have runs at max+ settings on my very efficient non-enthusiast card as it is.

Either you need a new GPU or you don't. If you do the current generation offers everything you need imo.

Don't fall into the trap of constantly waiting for the 'next big thing'.

The 8000 series are just 7000 rebrands for the OEM market.

The current 8xxx series yes, that is why the poster specified 'Next gen' 8xxx.

Using People's Tax money to pay for your GPU?

I have a feeling the real next gen won't be called the 8000 series.

I'm not sure - it's not like AMD to skip generations, but you could be right due to the extended turn around between generations this time around. I think they're still using the 'HD' prefix to distinguish it from the ye olde cards.

Re: Next gen GF 7xx/AMD 8xxx

Well what ever it might be called, i still think it's worth waiting for them.

I've got a GTX 570, which is ok for todays games. When i say ok, i can play recent releases on Med-High and still achieve 30-50fps.

I think it would be foolish of me to go and spend £300-£400 on a new GPU today, only for the next gen stuff to come out Q3 this year.

I'm actually looking forward to the new AMD cards. I'm hoping around Q3 this year...
