If you can possibly manage an extra £5 then this would be perfect:
    http://www.dabs.com/products/pny-gef...83330000&src=3

Actually you can get 2% cashback from quidco so it's only really an extra £3!
Plus you can probably flog the 'free to play' bundle for a few quid on ebay.

But it will certainly give you good 1080p performance on Bioshock and other modern titles:

Well just go to dabs.com and search for it.
Or it's essentially the same price from Scan:

Or this one, but I'd be very suspicious of the company selling it, unless anyone here has ever used them?

    Re: 6970 replacement

The 660 is dramatically better than the 7790, in bioshock it's 46fps vs 28 fps, and 28 just isn't going to be playable.

The 650 Boost is in between, but they still cost £140, the mere £5 extra for the 660 gives measurably better performance.

15% extra performance for £5 sounds like a bargain to me.

    Re: 6970 replacement

The AMD option would be a 7850, e.g.
    http://www.dabs.com/products/best-va...93R.html?src=3

On the plus side this should come with Bioshock for free (if you don't already have it) but won't be quite as fast.

have the 7800 series not got problems though ? , been reading a lot of threads around the net stating this (not sure if correct though)
even been trying some competitions to get a new card but no luck

No, no problems, just not quite as fast as a 660 and not really any cheaper.

why not just send it back to the maker ??if i ever have a prob with kit .. i always try to leave the etailer out of it these days .. not worth the hassle and they are only going to send it back to maker anyway ..

    Re: 6970 replacement

which card is it and which etailer for the 6970?

you can forever sit and look at cards - the hd 7850 is about £130 (well the pre order on scan) , gtx 660 is about £150 and the hd 7870 is about £170

    There's a crappy XFX 1GB model for £130, but I wouldn't touch that.

had this for around 16 months and returned it under rma before with same problem (red dots across the screen) , it was returned no fault found but now the plastic cover keeps falling off as well .
I cannot name them atm due to legal things (trading standards) , I would like to try NVidia this time as well if possible .

anyways it's a powercolor card and they only deal with the etailer
