Power consumption

Could someone explain why this is so important on a GPU card. All I read is Power consumption this and that. obviously higher is worse and lower is better.

Yer would just like o know why its such an important factor as I would normally just buy whichever gpu gives more fps.

If a card is really power hungry it could easily mean you need to change the power supply in your PC to actually run the thing.

Higher power consumption means higher requirements PSU wise and more waste heat you have to deal with, or more precisely more heat to handle for your GPU cooler and your case.
