Same reason I'm not getting 7950. I'll save about £30 if I don't get an XT. I figured 7870 should serve me well for a few years until next upgrade.
My 4890 lasted 5 years before the fan messed up

Eh? Where are you buying from?

The 7870 Tahiti is currently the cheapest 7870 available on Scan and it's even cheaper on ebuyer.
You cannot pick up a 7870 for £150.

Which Tahiti LE are you talking about? I'm talking about Sapphire 7870 XT. Other ones like VTX3D and Powercolor have much poorer coolers.

On Pixmania, Sapphire 7870 XT is £196.99 on and Sapphire 7870 OC is 165.99.
Not my first choice retailer but they seem to be the cheapest while still doing the Never Settle bundle.
Ebuyer 78XX has run out of Never Settle vouchers.

Wouldn't recommend Pixmania, loads of complaints on their return process.

I'd pay the extra for a UK based retailer

Don't forget the £8.40 shipping which is free on ebuyer/scan, so the price difference is negligible and I'd much rather buy from ebuyer too.

Nothing wrong with the VTS/Powercolor coolers, at least not compared to dual-X. They might not match up to Asus/MSI/Gigabyte, but those options aren't on the table.

Ah shoot. I only considered them cause they were fairly cheap and they are running the Never Settle Reloaded bundle. Decent UK retailers that do the cards and games bundle - that leaves Dabs. Ebuyer don't do the games bundle for the 78xx cards anymore =(

I think Amazon are generally good with support for all their products, but not sure about how it works for graphic card purchases and how long they support the purchase for. They're not running the games bundle either...

Scan delivery is £5 , ebuyer is free. Thing is, ebuyer 78xx cards are not running the games bundle anymore.
If I bump the budget up again....I could get the gigabyte 7870 from Dabs + get the games bundle http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyt...i-oc-7ZST.html
Total would be about £191.62 inc delivery.

Ok, but then looking at the sticky thread on this forum -http://forums.hexus.net/graphics-cards/204247-graphics-card-warrantys-lets-see-how-good-they-really-look.html -Powercolor support isn't great and not sure about VTX3D.

Oh well, guess my options now are the Dabs- Gigabyte with the games or cheaper Sapphire 7870 Dual x OC with no games on Amazon/Ebuyer.
Scan doesnt mention anything about games bundles at the moment so I think they might have run out of the offer too.

    Re: Sapphire 7870 XT or a HIS/Gigabyte/Vapor-X 7950?

Ebuyer still had the offer active yesterday, you snooze you lose.

If you are ruling out the 7870 Tahiti then get a 660 instead. It may be 1-2% slower, but it's over £40 cheaper.
Oh and if you buy from Dabs you get AC3 and the Free 2 Play bundle.

If you really prefer Gigabyte you can get one for £150:
    http://www.okobe.co.uk/ws/product/GI...4333?ref=1q4bs

Or far better from Scan for £158 with the bundle which is worth £20 on ebay, so effectively £138.

If you have 20+ posts on Hexus you can get free shipping from Scan.

The regular 7870 just isn't worth buying these days, it's been caught between the 7870 Tahiti which costs the same and the price cuts on the 660.

    Re: Sapphire 7870 XT or a HIS/Gigabyte/Vapor-X 7950?

I've been checking the prices on the retailers past 2 weeks, Ebuyer ran out of the promotion since last week on 78xx cards but still running on 79xx cards http://www.ebuyer.com/amd-pitcairn

Bugger. Now you got me thinking back to square one. If I go up to 7870 XT its only about ~£30 more for a Gigabyte 7950 at dabs with the games too.

    Re: Sapphire 7870 XT or a HIS/Gigabyte/Vapor-X 7950?

Ok ok ...managed to pull some extra budget.
    Am settling for 7950.

    Either:
    HIS IceQ Turbo
    http://www.ebuyer.com/483268-his-795...-dp-h795qc3g2m

    or
    GIGABYTE
    http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyt...x-oc-7XN5.html

What do you guys think? I'm guessing Dabs/ebuyer have pretty much equally good support.

By the way, would most of you say Pixmania is a no go in terms of support/RMA?

    Gigabyte easily.

Better card, comes with free games, no brainer imo.
Don't forget cashback with dabs from quidco.

    Re: Sapphire 7870 XT or a HIS/Gigabyte/Vapor-X 7950?

I went for the VTX3D 7870 from Scan a few weeks ago, at the time it was a really good price compared to the other cards and its been top notch with performance. But if you want to go for the 7950 I would recommend the Gigabyte, better card and better support services if something does go wrong and the retailer is being crap.

There's something very odd going on here, it's listed under the "Radeon HD 7870 Tahiti LE" section.
But they call it "SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Tahiti Boost Edition 3GB"

Why would you specify that a 7950 is a Tahiti version??

I mean the clocks and memory indicate that it is genuinely a 7950, but still a bit odd.
Also it seems to be a totally reference card and these do not fare well and are extremely noisy.
58 decibels under gaming load, wouldn't want that in my PC.

    Re: Sapphire 7870 XT or a HIS/Gigabyte/Vapor-X 7950?

Ah didnt know quidco had cashback on dabs! Thanks for that Willzzz.
Yep, I will not be getting any reference style/cooler cards. Had that on my 4890 and had high temps+ v loud fan.
The His Iceq Turbo had pretty good results http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...k,3207-13.html
but I just realised ebuyer are being selective with which 79xx cards get the Never Settle reloaded bundle. Oh well.

And Scan has run out of all their Never Settle codes.

    Gigabyte + dabs it is!
    Thanks for the time, everyone.
