    Cheap 1920x1200 graphics card

    Hi,

I have recently been having so much trouble with my pc. It keep crashing to BSOD for various gpu-related reasons, usually after showing video artefacts. sometime it recovers before the BSOD and pops up a message saying 'amd drivers were recovered' or something. but mostly it just crashes.

I thought it might be a software issue, but have tried most recent drivers, beta drivers, plain old windows drivers and today reinstalled windows again, but to no avail.

I built the pc a few years ago and have a 4890GS, but as I no longer do any gaming I am literally looking to buy the cheapest card I can (still a student!) that will allow me to watch video at full high-res (currently I have the driver disabled and no crashes, but only get 1400x1050 res)

    anyhow thanks for any help/suggestions!!

Something like an nvidia g210? Seriously cheap although forget gaming. In this day and age as long as you've got a halfway passable cpu (core duo or later) video won't be an issue.

    For example http://www.ebuyer.com/340319-evga-g2...01g-p3-1313-kr

    Or try underclocking the card....

Have you ruled out the power supply as the root cause?

No I haven't ruled out the power supply... But I suppose the only way to do that would be to try a different one?

Also what program could I use to underclock the card?

And thanks that card looks pretty suitable, I might just buy that and replace the pc when I have some more money...

If you have a sandy bridge or ivy bridge you can use the on board GPU.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.
