Well, you'd need a new mobo to put it in, so there's addtional cost. As regards performance, even the current AGP bus isn't being fully utilised, so you won't see any speed-up in current generation games. Maybe the higher speed, bi-directional facilities offered by PCI-E will become relevent at some stage, but I'd think that will be a couple of years off.

As Nomadd said, it doesn't make a difference to today's cards since AGP 8x is plenty fast enough. However, it will mean that you can use PCI Express cards in the future.

What's your budget for a new graphics card? X600s are basically slightly faster 9600s on PCI Express, meaning that they aren't exactly great performers. If I were you, I'd go for the 6800 (Vanilla, or GT if your budget can stretch that far). There's also the X800 from ATi. Although I'd recommend the nVidia because of Shader Model 3.0, both are so stupidly fast that you won't go far wrong with either of them.

Er, that didn't make sense, as only Nvidia currently offer SM3.0 support. :-)

Indeedy, only nVidia supports Shader Model 3.0. ATi support Shader Model 2.0b

Whoops, wrong way round. Yes, I meant I'd recommend the nVidia instead of the ATi because of Shader Model 3.0. I've written that recommendation so many times, I was bound to get it wrong sometime

If you're looking at the X600, I would advise waiting for availability of the GeForce 6600GT or Radeon X700 boards - THey are likely to be at the same price point, but offer much better performance.

What Hanners said. If you desperately need a card to tide you over, get an X300 (NOT an X300SE <shudder>) and have some fun overclocking it.
