    Graphics card for 1440p

I recently started gaming at 2560x1440 and bought the 7970 but the card struggles at higher settings with games like crysis 3 and probably will do with the upcoming metro last light. So I've decided to bite the bullet and go for a 690 or a titan.

I've got an i7 920 @ 3.8ghz and pci-e 2.0 motherboard but I've seen reviews that show I won't lose out at all or minimally at that resolution. However, I will upgrade my motherboard and cpu (Haswell) in a year.

So what card would be better? Titan or 690? Btw I don't want to crossfire with another 7970, single pci slot solution only please.

690 - Faster AND cheaper than a Titan.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Hang on a few days mate. I hear a 7990 might be announced on the 24th April.

I was thinking about waiting for the 7990 but the physx option is attractive for the upcoming metro last light and batman arkham origins.

    Re: Graphics card for 1440p

Went for the 690 in the end, getting around 49-50 fps average on crysis 3 @ 1440p. Very high settings with FXAA

Went for Gigabyte one which was the cheapest. All the brands use the same reference model as far as I'm aware.

    Re: Graphics card for 1440p

Yea definitely, it was either going to be gigabyte or evga!

    There's a review out for the 7990 http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...n-hd-7990-6gb/

Performance is pretty much neck and neck with the 690 (except Dirt 3/ Just Cause 2) but I guess that could improve with driver updates. But I'm happy with my 690

    Re: Graphics card for 1440p

Looks like AMD still have driver issues with Crossfire. It's been long enough, they really need to get a grip in their software dept!

    Re: Graphics card for 1440p

Well they seem to be spending more time sponsoring games and advertising now instead of sorting out their driver issues.

Their claim that the 7990 can play crysis 3 maxed out at 3840x2160 was tested here:

    Re: Graphics card for 1440p

I was seriously considering switching from Nvidia to AMD. I like their business model, bundled games looked great, they used to be great value for money, things just looked like they were heading in the right direction.

However, drivers are still a major issue in Crossfire and the 7990 pricing is totally wrong. Why would you release that card before getting the drivers fixed?! I just can't understand them. I'd rather have the 690 and have money left over.

Gonna hold out for the GTX 780 in May/June.
