    Which GTX 770?

    Hey,

Right I'm more or less settled on getting a GTX 770 (unless I have a sudden mad push to get a 780 at checkout time) however I'm not sure which one to go for, is there a current clear leader at the moment?

Would be pushing the card a bit later on but prob not out of box. System currently will be bottlenecked by the i5 760 @ 4.2Ghz but that will be replaced by a Haswell i7 in the coming months.

    2560 x 1440

    Cheers.

EVGA's ACX cooler seems to be the best of the bunch, and you get that famous EVGA service/warranty :-)

    Re: Which GTX 770?

That said, have you considered a GTX670? EVGA GTX670 FTW is factory-overclocked by a little over 10%, which gives it enough of a boost to reach (and very slightly exceed, but for all intents and purposes equal to) a stock GTX680. Not bad for £270 (free delivery and game):

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...4-2678-kr.html

£60 more for an average 7-8% gain with a GTX770. Well, unless you get the Palit GTX770 which can be had for £310. Will see if I can find the link for that (though I'd personally not buy a Palit).

    Re: Which GTX 770?

It depresses me that its only the 780 that is new tech, it pains me to spend out on older stuff but then on the flip side I'm finding it hard to justify the £550-600 for the 780. I know its not much of a drop from 770 to 670/680 but it would pain me more

    Re: Which GTX 770?

Fair enough :-) I was considering the GTX770 myself (I was almost certain I would get one infact) but decided that the £60 for 7-8% gain plus much higher power consumption (partly for the energy cost but more for it belting out more heat into my room) meant GTX670 would be a better purchase.

nVidia are really taking the piss with pricing now. GTX480 was a MUCH bigger improvement over GTX280 than the GTX780 is over GTX680, yet GTX480 launched at £430. Infact the GTX780 gain is smaller than the GTX680 vs GTX580, and the GTX680 launched around £400. And despite nVidia's model numbering, the true GTX_80 is of course the GTX Titan - GTX_80 models have never previously been a cut-down version of a GPU above it. That was always the GTX_70 option. Intel's CPUs seem to have become a bit pricier too lately.

IMO the best gtx 770 is any fitted with the reference titan cooler but it seems only Asus and Inno3d make them and they are over priced when you can pick up a hd7970 for £60 less with 4 free games.

I'm currently waiting for a reference gtx770 at RRP.

Edit: If you don't plan on needing SLI and just run a single card with really good case cooling the MSI gtx 770 Lightning seems to be fastest gtx 770 and at 2560x1440 the extra performance might be worth it.

Why don't you get a MSI Gaming GTX 770 OC? It comes with 1098MHz Core (Boost Clock:1150MHz) clock speeds and a Twin Forzer IV cooler.

    Re: Which GTX 770?

I'm now more pushed towards the EVGA SC as I forgot about the step up program that will allow me to upgrade to a 780 within 3 months if I feel like I'm not happy with the 770

    Re: Which GTX 770?

Quick note on EVGA warranty, double check the card number before you buy, EVGA has massively cut back on their 10year warranty far fewer of their card now carry it.

    eg EVGA GTX770 ACX http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-e...mhz-cores-1536
    Manufacturer Code: 02G-P4-2773-KR
So this only has a 3 year warranty
    http://eu.evga.com/support/warranty/

The 3 year warranty cards do support the step up program, but only if you get it from an authorised reseller and it's registered within 14days of purchase
    http://eu.evga.com/support/stepup/

    Re: Which GTX 770?

Im going for an msi gtx770 myself. Im building an 4770K system on an msi z87 g45 mobo gaming series so went with the msi gtx770 as it matches the mobo and apparently works better on an msi board.

Cheapest version on scan and the msi twin frozr cooler is really good at cooling and one of the more quiet ones so you can overclock it yourself and save a load of money.

    Re: Which GTX 770?

I have also been looking at the MSI GTX 770 myself.

I like the colour, i like the price and I especially like the fact that the price seems to have fallen by another £15 in the space of a week.

I don't like the fact that only half of the VRAM is cooled but the other half should be fine with the number of case fans I've got, but when you consider a used GTX 680 has been selling for £270 on eBay, £300 for a brand new pimped version at £300 is a steal!

    Re: Which GTX 770?

My friend owned a EVGA card and the main problem he face was the heating.even thought they give you different editions of the VGA you should think carefully about the cooling.if you can cool VGA well then its better for going to EVGA GTX 770 SE or something. but what i prefer is ASUS or Gigabite. both of them are very good for gamers.

on the other hand i think its better for stay GTX 780 because GTX 770 is basic High end and you can expect much of different from mid-high end card with this card. what i think is its better for you to go for GTX 780 or go for GTX 690 card .
