    Flashing gpu bios..

I want to flash the latest bios to my 7970. It looks like Gigabyte might have provided a tool to do so, so I will probably use that. But the thing I'm wondering, is which position is the switch supposed to be in? Gigabyte provide this diagram: http://uk.gigabyte.com/support-downl...=1896&pid=4102
I'm guessing position 2? Also, would it be good to do this in safe mode? Graphics cards are something I don't normally mess with much, other than the fan profile sometimes. But seeing as this card has 2 bios's, well it makes it safer to try. Thanks.

You should use position 2 for the update. I would back up before flashing.

Make sure the card is compatible with the new BIOS.

Flashing a gfx card I find to be a rather blase experience.

Even if you brick the card, you can reflash it by using the iGPU or another dGPU.

Just done my 7970 and flashed it in position 1 and bricked it about 5 times trying ~20 different BIOSes due to a HDMI sync issue I had with it. Fixed in seconds every time.

Just wondering what the point of backing up is? I have the same bios locked onto the other switch position right? I can also download the original bios from gigabyte. I know it's generally good practice with these types of things, so is that just the reason? Also, I haven't tried the Gigabyte software yet, so I don't know if it'll let me backup. Know a good program for this? Thanks.

Edit: Ok I can back it up with the Gigabyte software

Yeh I'm not actually to worried as I still have the backup bios in the worst case scenario I've flashed mobo bios's plenty of times. So I should be ok with this. But it's just that thing of doing it the first time you know. Thought there may be something really important that I'm not aware of..

I think I'm almost ready to give it a go..

Edit: Ok I just tried with the Gigabyte BIOS flashing tool which failed because it said the bios version didn't match. And I also tried with the Gigabyte Easy Boost software which just said it failed. I definitely got the right bios for my card, as long as the Gigabyte site didn't give me the wrong one. Card seems to still be functioning ok. I'm not sure it even tried to flash the bios, but just decided it was the wrong one. Maybe the switch should be in the other position? It said the version didn't match though. Any ideas? Thanks.

Its been a while and I'm not sure how supported the software is but a program call RBE might allow you to check and compare both BIOS files.

RaBiT might work for editing the BIOS. Proceed with extream caution.

I don't understand what you're trying to tell me? I don't want to edit bios files.. Thanks.

Your best bet is to probably email Gigabyte for support.
