Cinema 4d etc better on intel hd, or dedicated?

Hey guys, quick one! I've a friend who has asked a qeustion that i cannot actually answer, the setup is a i7 2600K which has the intel HD3000 GPU, (this is all that is needed to know for this question)

So what i've been asked is this, as he is using the cpu's GPU would he benefit from buying a external GPU in these programs? they are....cinema 4d/ boujou, after effects cs6, photoshop elements, final cut pro, sony vegas 12

Also would a 4670 help take the load of the cpu for more raw processing power?

    Thanks chaps

It depends on the program, some like Vue for instance don't use the GPU for anything other than displaying the interface etc, it does no rendering on the GPU just the CPU, its very application specific.

Adobe is introducing OpenCL acceleration for the Mercury Playback engine in collaboration with AMD,and PS has some GPU accelerated plugins and filters too. Sony Vegas has GPU acceleration with AMD CPUs AFAIK. A number of 3D design packages due use graphics cards for viewport acceleration and final rendering too.
