    2 GPUs + 3 Displays

I'm looking to upgrade reasonably soon and wondering if my proposed setup will work with what I have in mind.

    At the moment I have:
Asus P5N SLI 32SE Deluxe Motherboard
HD 4850 GPU which is connected to two 18-inch, each at 1280x1024
HD 4650 GPU with is connected via HDMI (also carries sound) to a 30-inch flatscreen TV

As part of the upgrade I am looking at getting the Asus Maximus VI Gene mATX motherboard.

My question is whether my existing GPU setup work with the Gene?

The Gene can run two GPUs but I think that when you use both PCIe slots they run at x8 each instead of x16. So I'm wondering if I can plug both my x16 cards into it and have them work?

Also any recommendations on upgrading to better GPUs would be appreciated? I'd like to keep the same setup as right now (eg. 2x screens + 1x TV with sound).

I don't do hard core gaming but would probably play the new SimCity5 as well as older titles like Rise of Nations, Counterstrike, Company of Heroes, etc. I do watch Netflix and other videos so I'd like the cards to be able to support Full HD on a 30-inch TV at least.

I also run a few math / stats packages (SPSS / Stata / Mathematica) and a lot of Excel, but I don't think these are GPU accelerated.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Will probably do another post in the review my build section with more details of the build I'm planning.

    Re: 2 GPUs + 3 Displays

You probably won't need multiple gpus unless you are gaming on all screens at once (and even then a single more powerful GPU is generally preferable). Running desktop tasks/playing video hardly taxes modern gpus at all so almost anything recent will do that and manage games on another screen, just check it has the right kind of display outputs.

The integrated intel gpu on your cpu will also be fine for HD video and desktop tasks.
