    Connection of Veiwsonic VP211B

Great monitor (I hope) - worst instructions ever. The pack comes with three cables: a USB cable and two others I have never seen. One says DVI and the other has 14 pins, is smaller than the DVI plug, and is blue if that helps.

In the absence of any guidance from the manufacturer I have connected the DVI and the mystery cable but not the USB (the computer set up sheet tells me not to connect any USB devices at this stage).

When I swith the monitor it goes through a brief set up, shows the Windows start up screen but then says " D-SUB, NO SIGNAL" and the screen goes blank. Much like my mind.

    Assistance greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

The small blue cable should be the D Sub and you should get a picture? Have you selected the right input method on the monitor? Sometimes you have to adjust your display drivers/install software to get the DVI to work. Quite often it works straight off; I've also found that if you start Windows up, unplug and then plug the DVI back in, sometimes it will cause Windows to recognise the monitor and display a DVI output.

Thanks MAS. I'll try your suggestions. I realise that this forum isn't teally for newbie questions like this but I can only try and set this thing up in the evening's when the Adamsham tech help line is closed. Hence, you guys are my only hope

Am I supposed to connect only one or the other of the DVI and D-Sub cables or both at the same time?

    Cheers

Of course its for newbie questions. I ask them myself all the time! Its nice and friendly here. And i think its only one cable at a time.

He he...you may live to regret that my friend. You have no idea how little I know about these computer thingies

Thanks for the cable tip. I have 'em both in right now so I'll take the DVI one out.

    Cheers.
