Upgrade from 7870 to 7950 - is it worth it ?

    Ebuyer have a 7950 at £188 currently

    http://www.ebuyer.com/341494-powerco...50-3gbd5-2dhpp

I have a 7870 in my rig at the mo, is it worth upgrading to this 7950 (sell the 7870 for £100/£110 ?) or better to hang on for a refresh ?

Hello, I would suggest that you wait until a refresh, if you are running games at 1920x1080 or higher get one of the new cards when they come out. But if you have a lower resolution monitor I think you could wait until the refresh and then get the 7950 or even a 7970 at an even lower price.

Wait for the refresh, there's not a great difference between them in most games. If using them for compute then slightly more reason to upgrade.

Yeah definetly wait. Even if they are expensive then they will probably bring down the prices of the 7950 and 7970s and the card you have is still pretty good

Hi, just to jump on this, if I was looking to buy fresh and not upgrade, would you still recommend the 7870 over the 7950? Or is there something better in this price range from nvidia?

Also, when is the refresh expected to be?

Yeah, they'e really going cheap at Scan now. Can't believe how much value is in the 670 now, it's crazy.

Gaming at 19x12 res - you're not going to see much of an improvement.

    7870 vs 7950 Boost edition

Re: Upgrade from 7870 to 7950 - is it worth it ?

It's a very small upgrade, as would the 670. Note the cheap 670s at Scan are failed overclocked models and I wouldn't recommend them.

If you want an upgrade from the 7870 I'd definitely wait.

Re: Upgrade from 7870 to 7950 - is it worth it ?

Well, if you wanted a 7950 I would go for this card anyway:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=GX-065-HS

    Extremely quiet, overclocks well.

Keep an eye out though - ocuk had an MSI 7970 at £240 yesterday.
