AMD Radeon R9 290X is slightly faster than GTX TITAN

    290X is ... faster.

The charts look interesting, the performance looks interesting (bearing in mind that the drivers still leave space for optimization), as does the consumption and the price should be 60% that of a GTX Titan (the price should be around $650 as this card should go against the GTX 780)!

    Hail the new king?

If those charts are right, good gravy that is one insane card. I thought going after the 770 was one thing but the 780 and Titan? If these results are genuine, very impressive indeed.

Only a few more days to the official unveiling and I can't wait to see what happens...

Re: AMD Radeon R9 290X is slightly faster than GTX TITAN

If that's true and AMD's R9 290x is 36% faster than a GTX Titan with alpha drivers, then even AMD's middle of the range cards could be faster than the Kepler GK110 based cards come release time.

It would be a hammer blow for nvidia if this is the case. I would expect Nvidia to rage quit the GPU market until they can produce 20nm cards.

If the results are correct finally I have a reason to change my 5870. I'm wondering if amd will keep never settle deal with the new line.

Re: AMD Radeon R9 290X is slightly faster than GTX TITAN

Pretty sure that AMD will offer at least 3 free games with the new 290x, if not more (like 5 or so).

Changing a HD5870 could be indeed a reason to buy one of these (or buying one of these the reason to change the good old HD5870, depending of your perspective).

Just to release it with a killer price and you are good (wonder if even with a 512bit bus overclocking the memory will still result in the same performance gain as with the current generation?).

Please release the 7770/7790 equivalent of the new era FAST!

Re: AMD Radeon R9 290X is slightly faster than GTX TITAN

So when will the new series come out ? I was like saving for a 7970 then I heard the HD 8 series is coming and I waited long and that turned out to be OEM, But I still got enough to buy a new PSU and that R9-290X if it comes.

    Will it...?

Will it what? As a reminder, the unveiling livestream is on Youtube in a little under 6 hours as of this post. It would be my best bet for any new info on these cards including the expected dates.

Even with the livestream tho, most of the interesting stuff/benchmarks are still under NDA...
Will be interesting to see if the rumours of performance actually match up to reality

You do know that the R number refers to the market segment, not the generation, right?

The next generation will be the R-300 (presumably headlined by the R9-390X)

EDIT: next generation after the R9 290X et al, that is.

Re: AMD Radeon R9 290X is slightly faster than GTX TITAN

Well, I had a Radeon 7000 8 years ago But "generation" is a bit misleading nowadays: you get refreshes half way through marketing cycles so "new" cards can end up with "old" generation numbers (e.g. Bonaire), and "old" cards often get rebranded to "new" generation numbers.

It occurs to me that one of the "surprises" of AMD's announcement was that some of the mid-range cards missed out on the new audio feature: that's probably down to which cards use all-new silicon and which are just using a refresh of existing silicon. The R9-280 and R9-270 both miss out because they're old silicon, presumably, while the R7-260X appears to be new silicon as it gets the new feature? I was under the impression that the R7-260X was using a Bonaire core, so perhaps the 7790 has the audio hardware already in place, and it could be enabled by a driver or BIOS update? That'd be interesting...

EDIT: You know, I think I still have my R300 kicking around somewhere! Or perhaps I sold it ....

if its true, then it will be good news for me as a titan owner, it should decrease there price making my SLI build even cheaper.
Because it would b a stupid move by nvidia to not cut the prices down.

I performance graphs I've seen suggest the 290 sits between the 780 and Titan. Price will be everything, I think.
