GTX 780 is it worth its value?
Hey guys so im wondering is the GTX 780 really worth its price... the 770 is almost £200 cheaper than the 780. So im kinda torn between the two... am i likely to get £200 extra performance if i go with a 780 ?
I want top end but i don't want to go over board at the same time so im looking for the best value'd card in the higher brackets for performance.
I should note im not interested in AMD encase some one suggests it. They lost me as a customer during their days of terrible driver support, their customer support was even worse during that time so I refuse to go back out of principle :P
So yeah, any advice would help here! :)
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
What are you using it for? Value is terribly subjective - to some, only the best of the best is good value, others only budget offerings are.
The 780 is based on titan, so is a mega compute monster. If you're just playing games however, especially ones that aren't so heavy on compute, you're better off value-wise sticking to the Kepler cards, like the 680/770, or you're just buying extra stuff that you don't need.
Or if you're only gaming at lower resolutions, a cheaper card again would be better value (even the 680 is kind of wasted at 1080p).

How many years ago was this?? People have very short memories of the Nvidia bump issues, which caused the early death of many laptops and that was a major hardware problem.
Also, the driver support is another old wives tail propagated by people. I have a GTX660 which has more driver related issues than any AMD or Nvidia card I have had in the last few years, which to put it mildly were close to zero before. Even then two of the issues with the GTX660 were easily fixable by just googling for an answer and only one has eluded me(it means I can only run the game in DX9),and I doubt there will be a fix ever for it. That is the worst driver problem I have had since 2005,and I can still actually run the game,go figure.
However,on the whole unless you are going for multi-card systems or an OS like Linux,at least going by my experience and those of all my mates, driver issues have not been a major problem for years in desktop systems.

I mainly do audio recordings/editing... streaming whilst i game too. I guess those hobbies would be when the GPU is pushed the most. I have not yet picked a monitor yet. That i will choose after the GPU :P
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
When the new AMD Radeon Rx 200 cards come out the price of the 780 should go down. But even still, I'd get the 680 unless you're using multiple monitors or have money to burn :p
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
I bought the Zotac GTX770 Amp edition and when overclocked beats a GTX780, so for £358 it was a steal.

I don't believe that. I've just looked up several reviews of the 7970, 770 and 780. The 7970 isn't as good as the 770. The 7970 Ghz Edition has very similar performance to a stock 770 but a card like the Zotac 770 Amp Edition is much better than the 7970 Ghz

Agreed especially with some decent cards being close to £200. Even the Asus HD7970 Matrix Platinum is around £250 to £260.
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
It's no good posting these prices now!!!.....when i bought my gtx770 the cheapest 7970 was still £320....i seen a asus 7970 Top the other day for £209 delivered but this means nothing when at the time they weren't going for that price?
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
Like other users have recommended.
Save some cash and get a GTX680
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
Also, there's rumours of a gtx 770 ti being developed. It should be a good bit cheaper than a 780 and have almost the same performance

Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
That argument is flawed because if your overclocking a 770 then you would overclock a 780 so there is still going to be a performance boost from getting a 780.
Either way I see no reason to spend more then £200 on a gpu unless you have a 120hz or 1440p monitor or a eyefinity/surround setup you just dont need to spend that much.
Re: GTX 780 is it worth its value?
I found this video to be useful.
To summarise the video:
GTX 780 when overclocked is very similar to GTX Titan. All other cards, GTX 770, 7970, 7950 etc seems to perform like a previous gen card, meanwhile TITAN and 780 seems like a new gen card.
You should get a GTX 780 if you don't mind spending 470-550. If you want to save over 220, grab a bargain 7970 on sale for 210-250. It's up to you whether the extra 220-340 is worth the additional 35-40% performance increase.
